About Music Festival in Martigues
Every June 21, Martigues celebrates the Fête de la Musique: amateur musicians, music school students, and local bands perform for free on several stages set up in the old town, around the canals and quays. Organized by the City of Martigues, the evening is entirely free and open to all, from the Jonquières and Ferrières districts to l'Île.
The Fête de la Musique in Martigues
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the 'Provençal Venice' into an open-air stage every June 21. Music freely takes over the squares, quays, and narrow streets of the old town, from dusk until late in the evening, in all genres and for all audiences.
A celebration in the heart of the three historic districts
Usually, the City of Martigues distributes concerts across several stages in the heart of the three historic districts crossed by the canals: Jonquières, l'Île, and Ferrières. Squares, esplanades, and quays host local bands, orchestras, and choirs, while bars and restaurants extend the celebration onto their terraces. The coastline, near La Couronne, also regularly participates in the evening.
