Classical music accessible to all in the Saint-Maurice communal church
Created in 2010 by the eponymous association and the town of Saint-Maurice, the Musicales de Saint-Maurice offer three evenings of high-level classical music each spring in the Saint-Maurice communal church. Renowned cellists, pianists, chamber musicians, and soloists perform in an exceptional heritage setting, with deliberately accessible prices and the option to purchase a reduced-price three-concert pass.
Founded in 2010 at the initiative of the town of Saint-Maurice (94410) and the association Les Musicales de Saint-Maurice, led by Loïc Poulain, Director of Cultural Affairs for the municipality, these musical evenings have won over a loyal audience by offering high-quality classical music in an exceptional heritage setting: the Saint-Maurice Communal Church, a 19th-century Neo-Romanesque building located at 59 rue du Maréchal Leclerc.
In just a few years, the Musicales de Saint-Maurice have earned their stripes. The formula is simple and effective: three concerts over a weekend in June, bringing together leading artists from the French classical scene, deliberately modest prices to make classical music accessible to the greatest number, and a historic venue offering warm natural acoustics.
The Musicales de Saint-Maurice embrace the major periods of the Western classical repertoire, from Baroque to late Romanticism. Past editions have featured works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and other masters, performed by artists of established reputation.
The 14th edition (June 2025) perfectly illustrates this artistic standard: on Friday, June 13th, the Romain Leleu Sextet presented “Bach Contemplation,” a journey into the work of the Cantor of Leipzig through the lens of the baroque trumpet — Romain Leleu is praised for his “impeccable technique, golden tone, and natural musicality.” On Saturday, June 14th, cellist Emmanuelle Bertrand performed three of Bach’s Suites for Solo Cello, offering a musical meditation of one hour of pure elevation. On Sunday, June 15th, the Trio Talweg — featuring pianist Romain Descharmes, violinist Sébastien Surel, and cellist Eric-Maria Couturier — closed the festival with Schubert’s trios, in a performance of great musical sensitivity.
The Musicales de Saint-Maurice embody the ideal of an ambitious and democratic municipal cultural policy. By maintaining moderate prices — from 12 to 18 euros per concert, with a three-concert pass between 30 and 40 euros — and choosing a heritage venue accessible to all, the town of Saint-Maurice affirms its conviction that great music is not reserved for Parisian concert halls or specialized audiences. The Saint-Maurice communal church, with its stone vaults and subdued lighting, offers natural acoustics that enhance the nuances of the performers' playing.
Each edition attracts an audience comprising local residents, music lovers from the Val-de-Marne, and classical music enthusiasts from all over the Île-de-France region. The growing reputation of the Musicales de Saint-Maurice, built concert after concert since 2010, now makes it one of the benchmark classical events in the Val-de-Marne.
The 15th edition of the Musicales de Saint-Maurice will take place in June 2026 in the Saint-Maurice communal church. Three evenings of high-level classical music will feature renowned soloists and chamber musicians in a program focusing on the Baroque and Classical repertoire. The full program will be announced in Spring 2026.
In 2026, the Musicales de Saint-Maurice will celebrate their 15th anniversary, a symbolic milestone for this municipal classical music festival that has become a benchmark in the Val-de-Marne region. Three exceptional evenings will be presented in the Saint-Maurice Communal Church, featuring a program that brings together leading artists from the French classical scene. The detailed program will be announced in Spring 2026 on the website of the town of Saint-Maurice.
