Chamber music festival in the heritage sites of Grésivaudan
Founded in 1990, Musique dans le Grésivaudan is a chamber music festival that brings classical music, jazz, and world music to the remarkable heritage sites of the Grésivaudan valley in Isère. For two weeks between late June and early July, the festival offers a sophisticated yet accessible program, where obscure masterpieces, contemporary works, improvised music, and traditions from across the five continents engage in a dialogue with the historical and natural treasures of the Grésivaudan region.
Since 1990, the Musique dans le Grésivaudan festival has carved out a unique identity in the Isère musical landscape: that of an open and demanding festival, where chamber music, jazz, improvised music, and musical traditions from around the world meet in the remarkable heritage sites of the Grésivaudan valley.
The festival stands out for a program that defies boundaries between musical genres. Each edition offers an eclectic sonic journey where the following intersect:
This bold programming highlights artists who are leaders of their generation, offering the Grésivaudan public concerts of exceptional quality in intimate settings.
One of the festival's unique features is its dialogue between music and the historical and natural heritage of the Grésivaudan. Concerts take place in remarkable locations throughout the valley: churches, castles, heritage halls, and natural spaces in the municipalities of Saint-Ismier, Montbonnot-Saint-Martin, Crolles, Le Versoud, Goncelin, Lumbin, Barraux, and other villages in the Grésivaudan. This alliance between music and heritage creates a unique immersive experience for spectators.
Concerts generally begin at 8:30 PM, with the exception of certain recitals scheduled for 5:00 PM, allowing audiences to enjoy the evening light in these heritage settings. This attention to the environment and atmosphere contributes to the magic of the festival.
Musique dans le Grésivaudan is deeply connected to its territory, the Grésivaudan valley, which stretches between Grenoble and Chambéry at the foot of the Chartreuse and Belledonne massifs. The festival contributes to the cultural influence of this valley by bringing internationally renowned artists to venues that are not traditional concert halls.
With thirty-five editions to its name, Musique dans le Grésivaudan has earned a solid reputation in the world of chamber music and jazz. The 34th edition in 2025 confirmed the festival's vitality, with a program blending jazz, classical music, Italian baroque repertoire, romantic piano, string quartets, and tenor voices.
The 35th edition of the Musique dans le Grésivaudan festival takes place from June 24 to July 6, 2026, across various heritage sites in the Grésivaudan valley, Isère. The program features chamber music, jazz, contemporary works, and world music, including the complete Bach sonatas and partitas for solo violin, tributes to Charlie Parker, Schubertiades, Harold López Nussa, and the premiere of "Loco Cello" by François Salque, Samuel Strouk, and Jérémie Arranger.
The Musique dans le Grésivaudan festival returns for its 35th edition from Wednesday, June 24 to Monday, July 6, 2026, offering nearly two weeks of concerts throughout the Grésivaudan valley in Isère.
