New Popular Theatre Festival
Open-air theatre festival in Fontaine-Guérin
2026
About New Popular Theatre Festival
Every summer in Fontaine-Guérin, a troupe of around twenty actors performs outdoors in the garden that has become the "home of theatre" for the Nouveau Théâtre Populaire. The adventure began in 2009, and the municipality of Les Bois d'Anjou provides two municipal buildings to host the company year-round.
The repertoire, which alternates between classic, popular, and contemporary plays, is performed in the evenings for general audiences and in the mornings for younger viewers. Some of the productions from previous seasons then go on tour in the autumn through the towns of Maine-et-Loire, under the name Tournée des Vendanges.
New Popular Theatre Festival — edition 2026
For its eighteenth edition, the Nouveau Théâtre Populaire is reviving five productions created between 2011 and 2015 from August 11th to 28th: Feydeau's "Tailleur pour dames", Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard", Brecht's "The Caucasian Chalk Circle", a Yiddish tale adapted as "Une histoire de paradis", and a children's show based on "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea". In September, the troupe will hit the road again with "Frankenstein", their 2025 production, for the Tournée des Vendanges across six towns in Maine-et-Loire.
