Observation of the starry sky in the heart of Creuse
Each summer in August, the commune of Bellegarde-en-Marche hosts its Nuit des Etoiles, an astronomical event open to all. The event is part of the national Nuits des Etoiles organized by the French Astronomy Association. The particularly clear sky of this rural area of Creuse, with very low light pollution, makes it an ideal observation spot.
The evening begins at dusk, around 9:30 PM, in front of the chapel of Bellegarde-en-Marche. An experienced amateur astronomer, equipped with his telescope, guides participants in discovering the Moon, Mars, constellations, and the shooting stars of the Perseids, visible between midnight and 2 AM in the north-northeast part of the sky.
The event is free (voluntary contribution at the entrance) and requires no special equipment. Young and old can discover the wonders of the night sky in a friendly and educational atmosphere, in the heart of one of the least light-polluted territories in France.
The Nuit des Etoiles 2026 will take place in August 2026 in Bellegarde-en-Marche. Meet in front of the chapel at dusk for an evening of starry sky observation.
