When the gardens of the Château de Lunéville light up
The Nuit des Jardins de Lumière is a magical event held annually in the gardens of the Château de Lunéville, nicknamed the "Little Versailles of Lorraine". Initiated in 2017, this event is part of the international "Gardens of Light" network launched in 2014 by the Royal Lazienki Museum in Warsaw. Each edition features an illuminated nocturnal stroll through the castle gardens, with fire installations, fiery choreographies, a lantern parade, and light shows. The event is free and open to all.
The Nuit des Jardins de Lumière is one of the highlights of the cultural season at the Château de Lunéville, an 18th-century architectural gem built by Duke Leopold I of Lorraine. Every year in February, the castle gardens are transformed into an enchanting luminous path, offering visitors a unique sensory experience combining art, heritage, and live performance.
The Nuit des Jardins de Lumière is part of the international "Gardens of Light" network, initiated in 2014 by the Royal Lazienki Museum in Warsaw (Poland). Each year, six European heritage sites with 18th-century gardens simultaneously organize an event around the themes of gardens and light. The Château de Lunéville, with its French formal gardens and groves, is the French representative of this prestigious network.
The event offers a nocturnal stroll through the castle gardens, enhanced by light installations, fire scenography, and artistic creations. The company La Salamandre adorns the gardens with its pyrotechnic installations and offers fiery choreographies to visitors strolling through the park. The evening is punctuated by a lantern parade, led by the inhabitants of the Lunéville region, which winds through the garden paths in an intimate and poetic atmosphere.
The event generally concludes on the castle terrace, with a moment of contemplation and reflection in front of this historic monument steeped in history.
The Château de Lunéville has experienced two major fires: in 1719, exactly 300 years before the event was created, and in 2003, a fire that ravaged a large part of the building. The Nuit des Jardins de Lumière thus resonates in a particular way with the history of the place, transforming fire – a destructive element – into a source of beauty and rebirth.
The 10th Nuit des Jardins de Lumière will be held in February 2026 in the gardens of the Château de Lunéville. A magical evening of nocturnal stroll with illuminated installations, fire shows, and a lantern parade, as part of the international Gardens of Light network.
