Nuits des Mille Feux de Villandry

A unique light show in the Loire Valley

Since the early 2000s, the Nuits des Mille Feux have offered a magical spectacle every summer at the Château de Villandry. For two evenings at the beginning of August, the seven hectares of French gardens, the most famous in the Loire, are illuminated by over 2,000 candles that trace the patterns of the decorative vegetable garden, highlight the boxwood embroideries, and are reflected in the water gardens' ponds.

A magical stroll at dusk

The garden gates open at 8 PM, just before dusk. Visitors begin their walk in the fading daylight, gradually discovering the magical transformation of the gardens as night falls. The alleys lined with trimmed boxwood, the squares of the decorative vegetable garden, and the ornamental flowerbeds take on a dreamlike dimension under the soft, flickering candlelight. The silence of the nocturnal gardens, punctuated by the chirping of evening birds and the splashing of fountains, creates an atmosphere of absolute serenity.

Entertainment and surprises

The Nuits des Mille Feux are not limited to contemplation. Entertainment and surprises punctuate the evening: live shows, musical performances, and artistic installations mark the visitors' path. In 2025, a flying surprise was announced to amaze spectators. The evening concludes with a grandiose fireworks display launched from the gardens, usually scheduled around 10:30 PM, offering a spectacular finale with the colors of the fireworks reflecting in the ponds.

A popular event with limited tickets

With 3,000 tickets available per evening, the Nuits des Mille Feux is a highly sought-after event that often sells out. Ticketing opens several months in advance, and advance booking is strongly recommended. The price is €15 for the full price and €8 for the reduced price (ages 8-18 and people with disabilities). The fireworks display is subject to prefectural authorization and weather conditions.

The gardens of Villandry, recreated in the early 20th century by Joachim Carvallo, are the most famous French gardens in the Loire Valley. Classified as a "Remarkable Garden", they consist of the unique decorative vegetable garden, the ornamental garden symbolizing the four forms of love, the water garden, the sun garden, and the charm maze. The Nuits des Mille Feux offer a completely different perspective on them.
