The Pabu Pottery Market
Pabu boasts a two-thousand-year-old ceramic tradition, evidenced by Gallo-Roman kilns dating back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries. By the 15th century, potters from Kerhré and Kerez had established a thriving industry, producing utilitarian objects and ridge tiles that were distributed up to 60 km away.
At its peak in the 18th century, the town was home to as many as 350 potters. The trade declined during the 19th century before disappearing in the early 1920s. Today, a 1727 potter's house, restored to reflect its 19th-century character, stands as a testament to this rich history. Nearby, an ancient communal kiln is currently the subject of research in collaboration with the regional archaeology department.
Organized by the Les Amis des Potiers de Pabu association in partnership with Argile Bretagne, the market keeps the tradition and craftsmanship of the town's historic potters alive.
