A month of heritage and natural discoveries throughout the Haute-Loire department
The Printemps du Patrimoine de la Haute-Loire is a departmental event organized by the Departmental Council of Haute-Loire and its partners. For a month, from early April to early May, over 70 heritage sites open their doors to the public with around a hundred activities: guided tours of castles, churches, abbeys, and character villages, restoration workshops, demonstrations of artisanal know-how, conferences, and landscape hikes. Created in 2023, this free event highlights the exceptional richness of the Altiligérien heritage, between nature and built environment, and attracts thousands of visitors each year to discover the treasures of Haute-Loire.
The Printemps du Patrimoine de la Haute-Loire is a large-scale departmental event launched in 2023 by the Conseil départemental de la Haute-Loire in partnership with the DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the CAUE 43 (Council of Architecture, Urbanism and Environment), the Fondation du Patrimoine, the CMA (Chamber of Trades and Crafts), the Pays d'Art et d'Histoire of the agglomerations of Le Puy-en-Velay and Haut-Allier, and the association Demeure Historique. For one month in spring, this event invites the public to explore the department and discover its heritage treasures.
The Printemps du Patrimoine offers a true journey through time and the landscapes of Haute-Loire. Over 70 heritage sites open their doors, accompanied by around a hundred activities spread across the entire territory. Among the emblematic places to discover are the castles of Polignac, Lavoûte-Polignac, and Saint-Vidal, religious jewels such as the abbey of La Chaise-Dieu and the chapel of Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe, as well as character villages like Lavaudieu, Arlempdes, and Allègre.
The rich and varied program is aimed at all audiences:
Alongside public activities, the CAUE de la Haute-Loire coordinates professional days for elected officials, architects, artisans, and heritage site managers. These meetings address topics such as the energy renovation of historic buildings, the integration of heritage into urban planning documents, photovoltaic solutions for protected sites, and participatory restoration projects.
The event particularly highlights the deep connection between the built heritage and the natural landscapes of Haute-Loire. Gardens, vegetable patches, pastures, grand landscapes, and romantic ruins extend the architectural heritage in a constant dialogue between the work of man and that of nature. This original approach distinguishes the Printemps du Patrimoine from other heritage events by offering an enriched reading of the Altiligérien territory.
The fourth edition of the Printemps du Patrimoine de la Haute-Loire will take place in the spring of 2026. Following the success of previous editions, the event is expected to once again offer a month of heritage discoveries throughout the department, with guided tours, workshops, hikes, and conferences. The full program and theme for this edition will be announced in early 2026 on the website of the Department of Haute-Loire.
The Printemps du Patrimoine takes place annually for one month, generally from early April to early May. The precise dates and full program are published on the official website of the Department of Haute-Loire.
The event unfolds throughout the entire Haute-Loire department, with over 70 participating heritage sites spread across the territory: castles, churches, abbeys, chapels, character villages, archaeological sites, museums, and remarkable landscapes.
The majority of activities offered as part of the Printemps du Patrimoine are free. Some private heritage sites may charge a specific entrance fee. Inquire with each site for access conditions.
