A unique gathering of Irish music in Périgord
Every year since 1991, the small town of Tocane-Saint-Apre in Dordogne has hosted the Rencontres Musicales Irlandaises, a unique event in France dedicated to traditional Irish music. Organized by the Association des Rencontres Musicales Irlandaises (formerly Association Culturelle Irlandaise de Tocane), this festival attracts thousands of Celtic music enthusiasts.
A week of musical immersion
For a week in late July, Irish musicians, singers, and dancers give concerts, classes, and workshops. The festival offers dance, singing, and instrument (fiddle, flute, uilleann pipes, bodhrán) workshops led by artists from Ireland. Informal sessions are held throughout the week in the village bars and squares.
A luthiers' fair and exhibitions
The festival also hosts a luthiers' fair specializing in traditional instruments, as well as exhibitions related to Irish culture. An event that makes Tocane-Saint-Apre a small capital of Celtic music in France.
