About Festival Regards

Les Rencontres Musicales Regards are a music festival organized in Domfront-en-Poiraie and the surrounding communes, supported by the vocal ensemble De Caelis and the City of Domfront. Under the artistic direction of Laurence Brisset, this festival explores medieval repertoires by confronting them with world music, contemporary creation, and poetry. The 5th edition will be held from May 29 to 31, 2026 in the heritage sites of the medieval city (Église Notre-Dame-sur-l'Eau, municipal theater, media library, Abbaye Notre-Dame de Lonlay) and offers concerts, a show for young audiences, a Greek ball, an aperitif-concert, and a poetic night visit, preceded in April-May by awareness-raising actions in nurseries, kindergartens, maternity hospitals, and community centers in the Domfrontais area.

Festival Regards: when the Middle Ages meet contemporary creation

Created by the vocal ensemble De Caelis and the City of Domfront-en-Poiraie, the Rencontres Musicales Regards festival is a unique musical event in Normandy. Under the artistic direction of Laurence Brisset, founder of the De Caelis ensemble in 1998, this festival makes medieval music dialogue with musical traditions from around the world and contemporary creation. The 5th edition will be held from May 29 to 31, 2026.

The De Caelis ensemble, heart of the festival

The De Caelis ensemble is a female a cappella vocal ensemble specializing in the interpretation of medieval repertoire. Composed of five to seven soloists, occasionally accompanied by period instruments, it is recognized for the purity of its voices and the originality of its programs. The Regards festival is the natural extension of this artistic approach, inviting other ensembles and artists to share the stage for unique encounters.

A program between tradition and creation

Each edition of the festival is structured around a common thread and offers:

  • Concerts blending medieval music, world music (Portuguese fado, Greek traditions…) and contemporary creation
  • Show for young audiences from six months old (« À la volette, mon premier concert »)
  • A participatory ball around world musical traditions (in 2026, Greek ball with dance initiation workshop)
  • Aperitif-concert in the heart of the historic city
  • Poetic night visit of Domfront blending history and readings under the stars
  • Awareness-raising actions upstream of the festival (April-May): « Cocon lyrique » in nurseries and kindergartens, « Bulles musicales » at the Flers maternity hospital, musical impromptu at the Anaïs community center, « Polyphonies du monde » workshops with the Oléna choir

The heritage sites of Domfront and its surroundings

The festival takes place in the remarkable heritage sites of Domfront and neighboring communes: the Église Notre-Dame-sur-l'Eau (11th century), a masterpiece of Norman Romanesque art, the municipal theater, the media library, the Cour Marie du Rocher and, outside the walls, the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Lonlay-l'Abbaye. The exceptional acoustics of these historic sites enhance voices and instruments.

A festival of national reach

A member of FEVIS (Federation of Specialized Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles), the Regards festival benefits from national recognition. It attracts music lovers from all over France, seduced by the originality of the programming and the beauty of the venues. The festival is supported by the Normandy Region, the Orne Department and the DRAC Normandie.

Festival Regards — edition 2026

5th edition of the Rencontres Musicales Regards festival from Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31, 2026 in Domfront-en-Poiraie and Lonlay-l'Abbaye (Orne). On the program: Portuguese fado at the Notre-Dame-sur-l'Eau church, concert for young audiences from 6 months old, Greek ball, aperitif-concert, and grand finale « Drôles d'oiseaux » by the De Caelis ensemble and Les Chanteurs d'oiseaux.

A 5th edition under the sign of the voice

For this 5th edition from May 29 to 31, 2026, the vocal ensemble De Caelis, under the artistic direction of Laurence Brisset, places the voice at the heart of the program: medieval voices, world voices (fado, Greek songs), burlesque and creative voices, poetic voices, and voices for toddlers.

Three days in the heritage sites of the Domfrontais region

The festival takes over the Notre-Dame-sur-l'Eau church (11th century, Norman Romanesque art), the municipal theater, the media library, the cour Marie du Rocher, and the Notre-Dame de Lonlay-l'Abbaye abbey. A journey that combines paid concerts and free events (ball, aperitif-concert, concert for young audiences, poetic half-hour).

Outreach activities beforehand

Before the intense weekend at the end of May, the De Caelis ensemble conducts outreach activities in the area in April and May: « Cocon lyrique » (mini-recitals for toddlers in five nurseries and kindergartens in Saint-Pierre-d'Entremont, Fresnes, Lonlay, Champsecret, and Flers), « Bulles musicales » at the Flers maternity hospital, musical impromptu at the Anaïs center (people with disabilities), « Polyphonies du monde » workshops with the Oléna choir.
