The biggest urban trail in France, in Rennes
The Rennes Urban Trail is an urban running race that invites runners to (re)discover Rennes by taking its streets, parks, and the interior of its most emblematic monuments. Having become the largest urban trail in France, the event annually gathers over 13,000 participants across three distances (7 km, 14 km, and 24 km). On the menu: stairs, unusual passages, rooftops, and places usually closed to the public, punctuated by festive entertainment throughout the courses.
The Rennes Urban Trail is an urban running race organized every spring in Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine (Brittany). Designed as a "sightrunning" experience, it allows runners to cross the city center and enter emblematic buildings and monuments: Hôtel de Ville, Jacques-Cartier prison, Thabor park, schools, squares, and passages usually inaccessible.
The event offers three courses starting and finishing at mail François-Mitterrand: an accessible 7 km (approximately 700 to 900 steps) that crosses the historic center and Thabor park, an intermediate 14 km (approximately 1,000 to 1,350 steps), and a demanding 24 km (more than 1,500 to 3,000 steps) reserved for experienced runners. A corporate challenge completes the program.
Beyond athletic performance, the Rennes Urban Trail is experienced as a celebration: dozens of activities punctuate the courses — DJs on rooftops, brass bands, batucadas, choirs, dancers, zumba, and theater — for a friendly atmosphere right in the city center. The event, which has become the largest urban trail in France, also supports research: a portion of the registration fees is donated to charitable projects.
Created by Daniel Jeulin, also behind the Rennes Green Marathon, the Rennes Urban Trail has established itself over the editions as a major event in the Breton sports calendar, attracting thousands of runners from across the region and beyond.
The 8th edition of the Rennes Urban Trail was held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in Rennes, bringing together 14,177 runners across three distances (7, 14, and 24 km) through the city center and inside its emblematic monuments.
