Rock à Block: Girouard's rock and metal festival

Born in 2018 from the passion of a group of music lovers in Girouard (Vendée), the Rock à Block festival quickly established itself as a must-attend event for rock and metal fans in southern Vendée. Also known as Rock à Block Summer, this summer event takes place every year at the end of July at the P'tit Val Gaillard site, a wooded clearing accessible by a small wooden bridge over a stream.

A progressive program from rock to metal

The festival's philosophy is based on a musical crescendo throughout the evening: the first bands offer accessible rock (blues rock, pop rock, rock'n'roll), then the program gradually evolves towards heavier sounds — punk rock, thrash metal, metalcore — culminating in more extreme bands after midnight. Five to seven bands perform on stage, offering every festival-goer the chance to find their musical happiness. Over the years, the festival has hosted artists from all over France and even Spain.

A unique setting and a family atmosphere

The P'tit Val Gaillard site offers a remarkable natural setting, decorated with decorated wooden fences, murals, banners, and themed decorations that create an immersive atmosphere. The lighting, praised for its exceptional quality at this scale, helps transform the clearing into a true performance venue. Tables, benches, and pallet furniture allow festival-goers to comfortably enjoy the concerts.

An event driven by volunteers

Organized by the Rock à Block association and supported by the Girouard Festival Committee, the festival is entirely run by passionate volunteers. Their commitment ensures careful organization and a warm welcome, making Rock à Block an event where locals, families, and music lovers of all ages, from 3 to 90, come together. The festival also offers a winter edition (Rock à Block Winter) in the Girouard community hall, extending the musical adventure all year round.
