Founded in the early 2000s by the cultural association ZIKAFON, led by Malik El Kadaoui, the Roule ma Poule festival was one of the most endearing musical adventures in the Yonne department. Centered around contemporary music, it welcomed, over its editions, artists of French chanson, rock, reggae, electro, and world music, in a deliberately friendly and popular spirit.
A festival rooted in the Cousin valley
The editions of Roule ma Poule were held in Avallon, a medieval city perched above the Cousin valley, at the gates of the Morvan Regional Natural Park. The festival offered a two-day format, Friday and Saturday, with several groups per evening, a bar, catering, parking, and camping nearby.
An eclectic program
Over its editions, the festival notably hosted Pierpoljak, Yves Jamait, François Hadji-Lazaro, Percubaba, High Tone, Luke, and Domb — a revealing overview of the diversity of French and international scenes championed by the event, from reggae to rock chanson and festive electro.
Today: the ZIKAFON association and Festivallon
The ZIKAFON association, based at 6 rue du Marché in Avallon, remains active in local cultural life. It now organizes Festivallon, a festival of free concerts that enlivens Avallon's bars and restaurants every summer from July to September. This is a distinct event from the former Roule ma Poule, with its own format and identity.
