Run in Mont-Saint-Michel: Running Through History
Since 1998, the Marathon de la Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel β now Run in Mont-Saint-Michel by Harmonie Mutuelle β has been one of the most sought-after and photogenic marathons in the world. Every May, thousands of runners from dozens of countries start in Cancale in Ille-et-Vilaine for a legendary race that ends at the foot of Mont-Saint-Michel.
A Breathtaking Course
The marathon route follows the Breton and then Norman coast, passing through picturesque villages and offering exceptional panoramas of the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. As the kilometers pass, the silhouette of the Mont gradually appears on the horizon, growing with each stride until the grand finish in front of the thousand-year-old monument. The course is relatively flat, making it accessible to both seasoned marathoners and runners attempting their first 42 km.
Four Races, One Spectacle
The event offers four formats suitable for all levels:
- Marathon (42.195 km): the flagship event, from Cancale to Mont-Saint-Michel
- Half-marathon (21.097 km): a shorter but equally spectacular course
- 10 km: an accessible race for everyone, ideal for a first competitive experience
- Ultra-trail (53 km): for ultra-distance runners, an additional challenge through the bay's trails
An International Event
More than 5,000 runners representing about thirty nations participate in the event each year, which also attracts thousands of spectators along the course and at the finish line. Since 2015, the organization has been entrusted to Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), the organizer of the Tour de France and the Paris Marathon, ensuring an exemplary level of organization.
A Marathon in a World Heritage Site
Running at the foot of Mont-Saint-Michel, one of France's most visited monuments and a UNESCO World Heritage site, gives this sporting event a unique dimension. The finish line facing the majestic silhouette of the abbey is a moment of intense emotion that marks every participant for life.
