A festival for teens, by teens

Created in 2015, Semaine Extra is a pioneering initiative of the NEST – National Dramatic Center of Thionville-Grand Est. This one-of-a-kind festival is entirely dedicated to teenagers: the programming, schedules, formats, and atmosphere are designed to meet the desires and questions of this audience, often overlooked by traditional cultural offerings.

Engaged programming

Over two weeks in May, Semaine Extra offers a rich program that addresses themes relevant to adolescence:

• Contemporary theater shows: each edition presents about 6 plays, including several original creations. Topics cover identity, family, sports, life paths, and youth challenges.
• Open stages: teens are invited to take the stage themselves to express their talent, whether in theater, music, slam, or dance.
• Practice workshops: workshops led by professional artists allow participants to discover the performing arts.

Debates and meetings

Beyond the shows, Semaine Extra fosters dialogue and exchange:

• Debates on current events: lively discussions on topics that concern teenagers.
• Meetings with artists: informal moments allow teens to interact directly with actors, directors, and writers.
• Grand finale party: each edition concludes with a festive evening that brings all participants together.

NEST, a committed CDN

The NEST (formerly Théâtre de Thionville) is a transborder National Dramatic Center that has made youth one of its priorities. Semaine Extra is the highlight of this commitment, offering teenagers in the region privileged access to contemporary theatrical creation.

Accessible prices

The festival's pricing policy is designed to be accessible to young audiences:

• €5 for schoolchildren, students, children under 12, and job seekers.
• €8 for those under 26.
• €12 for members.
• €18 for the full price.

11 editions of loyalty

With its 11th edition in 2025, Semaine Extra has built a loyal and growing teenage audience. The festival has become an anticipated event for young people from Thionville and the entire metropolitan area, who find here a unique space for freedom, discovery, and expression.
