Theater festival in the historic heart of Senlis
Created in April 2012, the "Senlis fait son Théâtre" festival takes over the historic heart of Senlis every spring for several days of theater, street, and stage performances. Its unique feature is offering amateur and professional shows of various genres—street theater, mime, comedy, classical and contemporary theater—in the city's heritage sites, not all of which are designed to host performances. Medieval cellars, inner courtyards, gardens, and chapels become ephemeral stages where theater dialogues with heritage.
The festival Senlis fait son Théâtre was born in 2012 from the will of the city of Senlis to bring live performance to life within the exceptional setting of its historic city. Every spring, for several days, amateur and professional companies take over the most remarkable and sometimes the most unexpected places in the city: medieval cellars, inner courtyards, gardens, chapels, and public squares.
The program covers a wide variety of genres: street theater, mime, comedy, classical theater, contemporary theater, object theater, and shows for young audiences. This diversity allows every spectator to find something they enjoy and discover sometimes little-known theatrical forms.
The originality of the festival lies in its choice of performance venues. Shows are staged in spaces not usually dedicated to theater, creating a symbiosis between architectural heritage and artistic offerings. This connection between theater and heritage offers spectators a unique experience and contributes to the rediscovery of Senlis's heritage.
Senlis fait son Théâtre combines local amateur companies and professional troupes, fostering exchange and encounters between practitioners of all levels. The festival is designed for a family audience, with shows suitable for all ages and theater discovery workshops for children.
Over the years, Senlis fait son Théâtre has become an anticipated cultural event for residents and visitors alike. The festival contributes to the cultural vibrancy of the city and the rayonnement of its exceptional historical heritage.
