A trail in the heart of the Vouvray vineyard
The Trail des Vignes de Vernou-sur-Brenne offers runners a unique experience: to run on the trails of the Vouvray vineyard, one of the most renowned appellations in the Loire Valley. Starting from the Vernou-sur-Brenne football stadium, participants set off through an exceptional wine landscape, between cellars dug into the tuffeau stone, troglodyte dwellings, slopes planted with Chenin Blanc, and hilly woodlands.
Two demanding race formats
The trail offers two technical and hilly courses with an elevation gain of 480 m and 240 m of ascent:
- La Balthazar (18 km): starts at 9:00 AM, limited to 350 runners, for ages 18 and over. A demanding course that winds through vineyards, troglodyte cellars, and forest paths on the heights of Vouvray.
- La Magnum (9 km): starts at 9:30 AM, limited to 350 runners, open from age 16. A shorter but equally technical format, ideal for discovering wine trail running.
The courses are 80% off-road, with single tracks, vineyard paths, and forest trails. The terrain is technical and hilly, with ridge crossings offering spectacular panoramas of the Loire Valley and the Vouvray vineyard.
Growing success
Since its creation, the Trail des Vignes has enjoyed growing success, increasing from a few hundred runners to over 500 participants in the 2024 edition. The event attracts trail runners from all over the Centre-Val de Loire region and beyond, drawn by the originality of the course and the beauty of the wine landscapes. The organizers had to limit the number of places to preserve the quality of the experience on sometimes narrow trails.
Vernou-sur-Brenne, a wine village
Vernou-sur-Brenne is a charming wine village located on the right bank of the Brenne river, in the heart of the Vouvray appellation. The trail is an opportunity to discover this remarkable wine and troglodyte heritage, with tuffeau stone houses, ancient cellars, and vineyard-covered slopes. A friendly atmosphere is guaranteed with well-catered refreshments and a festive mood at the finish line.
