Un Autre Monde: The Free Festival of Music from Here and Elsewhere in Orléans

Since 2013, the Un Autre Monde festival has taken over the Parc Pasteur every late summer, a four-hectare green space located in the city center of Orléans. Supported by the DEFI association (Dialogue, Expression, Formation, Insertion), founded in 1989, this free event open to all celebrates musical diversity and living together through two days of concerts, activities, and encounters.

A Legacy Rooted in the Orléans Region

Un Autre Monde is the direct heir to the DEFI'stival, a festival organized by the same association from 1994 to 2012 for 18 editions. In 2013, the association wanted to renew its artistic offering by creating a new event in the heart of the city, at Parc Pasteur, with a program resolutely focused on world music in all its forms: solognote cumbia, Maghrebi blues, berrichonne rumba, Malagasy rock, afrobeat, reggae, electro, hip-hop, French chanson, and many others.

Two Stages, An Eclectic Program

The festival unfolds on two alternating stages, offering spectators a fluid sequence of concerts from 6 PM to midnight. The program highlights both local artists from Orléans rehearsal studios and DEFI Before evenings, as well as national and international groups with diverse styles. Among the artists who have marked past editions: Burning Heads, La Dame Blanche, ManuDigital, Scratchophone Orchestra, Jo Dahan et le Gonzo Club, Balani Sound System, and Twende Pamoja.

An Engaged Associative Village

Beyond music, Un Autre Monde stands out with its associative village, a true civic and solidarity space. Local associations offer information booths, workshops to raise awareness about discrimination, fun and creative activities for children — face painting, instrument making, storytelling — as well as activities focused on ecology and social inclusion. The festival is also a place for convivial dining with burgers, crepes, and world dishes at affordable prices, served by the DEFI association.

A Popular and Unifying Festival

True to its philosophy of free and open access for all, Un Autre Monde attracts several thousand festival-goers each year in a warm and family-friendly atmosphere. Parc Pasteur offers an ideal setting with its large central lawn where the public can relax freely, creating a unique moment of sharing and conviviality to end the summer before the return to routine. Supported by the City of Orléans, Orléans Métropole, and the DILCRAH, the festival reaffirms its role as a popular gathering around music and cultural diversity year after year.
