Un Été dans le Tarn: itinerant culture for all
Un Été dans le Tarn is one of the most emblematic events of the ADDA du Tarn (Departmental Agency for the Development of Arts and Culture). A nomadic festival by nature, it travels through the Tarn department every summer to bring quality live performances to the greatest number of people, for free and outdoors, in communes often far from permanent cultural facilities.
A festival born from the conviction that culture is a right
ADDA du Tarn founded Un Été dans le Tarn on a simple but demanding conviction: culture is a fundamental right, not a privilege reserved for city dwellers. By traveling through 8 communes of the department each summer, the festival embodies this philosophy of equal access to culture.
The total gratuity of the shows is a strong political choice. It is made possible by the support of the Tarn Department and the host communes, which commit to providing spaces and mobilizing their inhabitants. This gratuity is not synonymous with lower quality: the programmed artists are recognized professionals, selected for their ability to reach very diverse audiences.
An open-air multidisciplinary program
The strength of Un Été dans le Tarn lies in the diversity of its artistic offerings. Far from being confined to a single genre, the festival embraces several disciplines and styles:
- Contemporary circus: companies that invent narrative, poetic, or acrobatic circus, ideal for outdoor spaces.
- Flamenco: the passion of jondo singing and flamenco dance, powerful and accessible to all ages.
- Contemporary dance: choreographic proposals that dialogue with the open air and the Tarn landscapes.
- Blues: the living heritage of the blues, in its acoustic and electric forms, which resonates particularly well in the open air in the evening.
- French song: from chanson à texte to francophone pop, for lovers of words and melodies.
This plurality ensures that every resident, every child, every family can find a show that speaks to them. ADDA's programmers ensure a mix of proposals within each host commune, often offering two or three different shows on the same evening or weekend.
8 communes, a network of Tarn villages
Each edition of Un Été dans le Tarn is built in partnership with 8 communes in the department, carefully chosen for their geographical representativeness and their associative dynamism. The festival does not necessarily return to the same communes from one year to the next, which allows it to gradually reach the entire Tarn territory.
The shows take place in places that are part of the daily lives of the inhabitants: village squares, castle courtyards, public gardens, parks... These spaces, familiar to local residents, are transformed for an evening into true open-air stages. This anchoring in everyday places contributes to the unique atmosphere of the festival, halfway between a village festival and a major cultural event.
ADDA du Tarn: an agency serving the territory
The ADDA du Tarn is a public associative structure, supported by the Tarn Department and the State, responsible for developing cultural and artistic practices throughout the department. It supports cultural associations, local artists, and communes in their projects, and organizes several flagship events including Un Été dans le Tarn and the Rencontres Départementales de Chant Choral.
The mission of Un Été dans le Tarn is fully in line with the departmental cultural policy: to meet audiences where they live, reduce inequalities in access to culture, and support professional artistic creation by offering them diffusion spaces outside the classic circuits.
The 2025 edition: from June 22 to July 30
The 2025 edition of Un Été dans le Tarn took place from June 22 to July 30, 2025, with performances in 8 communes of the department. Over more than a month, the festival offered shows of contemporary circus, flamenco, dance, blues, and French song, always for free and outdoors, welcoming thousands of spectators throughout the Tarn.
