About Vrai Repaire

The Vrai Repaire Festival is an intergenerational contemporary music festival founded in 2018 by a group of music-loving friends in the heart of the village of Varaire, on the Causse de Limogne in the Lot region. Until 2024, it hosted a summer weekend of concerts blending world music, reggae, French chanson, hip-hop, and global sounds, drawing up to 3,000 festival-goers. After the difficult cancellation of its 2025 edition, the association is returning in 2026 with a lighter, free format, featuring a one-day Fête de la Musique on June 20th, while awaiting the festival's full return.

Vrai Repaire — edition 2026

In 2026, Vrai Repaire turns a new page: following the cancellation of the 2025 festival, the Varaire-based association is replacing its ticketed weekend with an entirely free Fête de la Musique on Saturday, June 20th, 2026, at the Place des Marronniers in the heart of the village. From 4:00 PM to 3:00 AM, two continuous stages will host over ten artists—Myasara, Victor Janvier, Cinq Oreilles, Inflatable Dead Horse, Petitcopek, Fun Fun Funeral, Lot'Kon, Canes Venatici, and Serious Freud—set against a collective scenography crafted by volunteers on the theme of an enchanted forest. The afternoon is dedicated to workshops, a local makers' market, and family-friendly activities.

A free Fête de la Musique instead of the festival

The 2026 edition of Vrai Repaire will not take its usual festival form. The association, which had to cancel its June 13th and 14th edition in 2025—a decision that cost them approximately 20,000 euros and left them in financial difficulty—has chosen to restart with a lighter, free format. They are organizing their first Fête de la Musique in Varaire on Saturday, June 20th, 2026, in the village square, Place des Marronniers. The event runs from 4:00 PM to 3:00 AM, with free admission and no ticketing required.

Two continuous stages from 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM

Concerts will follow one another without interruption across two complementary stages. The Marronniers Stage focuses on pop, soul, rock, and folk: Myasara with her balance of softness and quiet strength influenced by neo-soul and ragga; Victor Janvier and his intimate songs blending melancholic trumpet with digital production; the resolutely rock journey of Cinq Oreilles; and the dark, electric sound of Inflatable Dead Horse, at the crossroads of punk and folk ballads. The Garden Stage is dedicated to rap, electro, and techno: Sète-based rapper Petitcopek, a regular at major venues like the Bataclan, opens the evening; Fun Fun Funeral performs a solo pop ceremony between playful drum machines and British influences; Lot'Kon takes the dancefloor from bass house to techno; Canes Venatici follows with a techno-psychedelic mass; and Serious Freud closes the night with dark melodic techno fueled by thirty years in the Berlin underground scene. Between sets, the Batufraka batucada and its twenty percussionists will provide interludes with Brazilian rhythms.

An afternoon of workshops and a market starting at 4:00 PM

The day kicks off at 4:00 PM with family activities. Guitarist Mathieu Tétéu starts things off with a repertoire spanning classical and samba-jazz. Children can craft instruments from recycled materials and help create the decorations—flowers and butterflies for the enchanted forest. Before his concert, Petitcopek will lead a rap writing workshop open to everyone. A market will bring together local artisans and creators, including Mini by Lucie, Le Tracteur Savant, and Le Joli Coquelicot, alongside exhibitions by Toulouse-based artists Alice and June.

A village festival in reconstruction

Created in 2018 by a group of friends, the Vrai Repaire Festival used to draw up to 3,000 festival-goers in August to this village of 350 inhabitants in the Causse de Limogne, featuring world music and contemporary lineups including Amadou & Mariam, Deluxe, Alborosie, Flavia Coelho, and La Yegros. The association, which has been calling for financial support since the 2025 cancellation, presents this Fête de la Musique as the first step toward a revival. No date has been announced yet for the return of the festival in its two-day format.

A festival born from passion in the heart of Quercy

The Vrai Repaire Festival was born in 2018 from the initiative of a group of music-loving friends, united within the Le Vrai Repaire association. Their ambition: to enhance and energize the cultural and musical landscape of the southern Lot by offering a high-quality event rooted in an authentic rural setting. Located in the small village of Varaire, a town of 350 inhabitants on the Causse de Limogne between Cahors and Figeac, the festival established a strong identity from its very first edition.

A lineup of world music and contemporary sounds

The Vrai Repaire Festival's programming is known for its musical openness and eclecticism. Reggae, afrobeat, Latin music, French chanson, hip-hop, electro, and global sounds share the festival's two stages. Over the years, Le Vrai Repaire has hosted internationally and nationally renowned artists: Tiken Jah Fakoly, Amadou & Mariam, Deluxe, Flavia Coelho, Alborosie, Neg'Marrons, La Yegros, Guts, Manudigital, Féfé, Jahneration, Ladaniva, Moonlight Benjamin, and many others. Each edition brought together a dozen bands and artists over two days of concerts, held in mid-August until 2024.

A participatory and family-friendly spirit

Le Vrai Repaire cultivates a spirit of conviviality and sharing that makes it unique. The festival is designed as an intergenerational meeting place, accessible to families. On-site catering highlights local cuisine from the Quercy region, and a free campsite, just a five-minute walk from the site, allows festival-goers to extend the experience. The warm atmosphere of a small rural village in the Lot, the proximity to the artists, and the dedication of the volunteers help create a unique vibe, far from impersonal large-scale festivals. The association maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward theft and sexist or sexual violence, and promotes a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.

A 2025 cancellation, a 2026 relaunch

The 2025 edition, scheduled for June 13th and 14th, was cancelled: between increasingly demanding regulations and a sharp decline in public and private funding, the association felt that "the obstacles were beyond our strength." The decision cost them approximately 20,000 euros and led them to launch an appeal for financial support. At the same time, they announced their intention to imagine "other, more adapted, more resilient forms of gathering" to keep the spirit of Le Vrai Repaire alive. This came to fruition on Saturday, June 20, 2026, with a first free Fête de la Musique on the Place des Marronniers: two continuous stages from 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM, over ten artists, workshops starting at 4:00 PM, and a collective scenography based on the theme of an enchanted forest. No date has been announced yet for the return of the festival in its two-day format.

Strong local roots

Supported by a small rural association with the backing of the Lalbenque-Limogne community of communes and the Occitanie Region, Le Vrai Repaire actively contributes to the cultural dynamism of the Lot. Since its inception, the festival has seen steady growth, going from 1,500 spectators during the first edition to nearly 3,000, establishing itself as a staple of the Lot summer and contributing to the appeal of this preserved territory on the Causse de Limogne, along the route of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage.
