The Week-end des Artistes: La Carneille, village of art

For over ten years, the village of La Carneille, located in the commune of Athis-Val-de-Rouvre, has hosted the Week-end des Artistes, an event that celebrates artistic creation in all its forms. This village in the Norman bocage, known for its community of art artisans, transforms for a weekend into a vast open-air gallery.

Eighty artists on exhibition

The Week-end des Artistes brings together around 80 artists from various disciplines:

  • Painters: oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media
  • Sculptors: wood, stone, metal, clay
  • Photographers: art prints, reportage, digital creations
  • Ceramicists: pottery, earthenware, stoneware, porcelain
  • Printmakers: prints, linocuts, etchings

The works are exhibited in several exhibition spaces, both in public areas (communal halls, gardens) and private spaces (workshops, barns, courtyards), creating an artistic trail through the village.

A guest of honor artist

Each edition highlights a guest artist whose work is presented in a special way. In 2025, the guest artist was Marjolaine Salvador-Morel, and the theme of the edition was "L'envol" (The Flight). This focus on an artist provides a common thread for the event and allows for an in-depth discovery of a creative universe.

A producers' market and entertainment

In addition to the exhibitions, the Week-end des Artistes offers:

  • Local producers' market: Norman regional products, cider, cheeses, cured meats
  • Evening entertainment in the village park on Saturday
  • Meet the artists in their exhibition spaces
  • Demonstrations of artistic techniques

La Carneille is an atypical village in the Norman bocage, known for the permanent presence of art artisans who live and work there year-round. This concentration of artists and creators gives the village a strong cultural identity, which the Week-end des Artistes celebrates every summer.
