Free and itinerant theatre festival in the Yvelines
Created in 2025 by the Departmental Council of Yvelines, Yvelines Théâtre is a traveling and free festival that brings performing arts to all corners of the department. From May to July, about ten professional companies tour the Yvelines to offer nearly forty free performances in various and often unexpected locations.
The originality of Yvelines Théâtre lies in its itinerant nature. Performances take place in venues not typically dedicated to theater: village squares, schoolyards, parks and gardens, media libraries, multi-purpose halls, and community centers. Each partner municipality hosts one or more performances, making the festival a true local event. This approach reaches audiences who do not always have access to performance venues, in both rural and urban areas.
Each edition selects about ten companies from applications submitted to the Department. The 2025 edition featured ensembles such as L'Accompagnie, Les Mauvais Élèves, Duo Soma, Princesse Moustache, Freikopf, Espresso Variété, Hortus, Le Klou, Les Acharnistes, La Compagnie In Cauda, and La Compagnie des Miracles. The performances cover a wide range of genres: contemporary theater, street theater, circus, puppetry, clowning, and vaudeville.
All Yvelines Théâtre performances are free and open access, with no prior reservation required. The Department covers the companies' fees and technical aspects, while partner municipalities provide logistical support. Awareness workshops for schoolchildren and leisure centers complement the program, embedding the festival in a long-term cultural outreach initiative.
The Yvelines Théâtre festival returns for its 2nd edition from May to July 2026. About forty free performances are scheduled in the towns of Yvelines. The selection of companies and the detailed schedule will be announced in spring 2026. The festival will continue its mission to make performing arts accessible to all residents of Yvelines.
