The Fête du Gâteau Basque of Cambo-les-Bains
Saturday October 3 and Sunday October 4, in Cambo-les-Bains. The Fête du Gâteau Basque takes over the town centre, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. The event returns every first weekend of October.
The event is both gastronomic and festive. It celebrates the Basque cake, a dessert emblematic of Basque pastry-making and more than 200 years old. This Basque dessert is served throughout the town centre of Cambo-les-Bains, over the two days of the event.
The association Eguzkia organises the event. It works in partnership with two bodies: the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, on one hand, and the town of Cambo, on the other. The three partners come back together every year for the same event, in the town centre.
Artisan pastry makers gather for the occasion. Saturday and Sunday, in the town centre of Cambo-les-Bains, they let the public discover this dessert, more than 200 years old, alongside the two partners of the association Eguzkia.
The rest of the weekend
In Limoges, the Les Francophonies - Zébrures close this Saturday ten days of theatre, dance and music, gathering artists from five continents since 1984 at the Maison des Francophonies and many venues across Limoges, to celebrate the diversity of writings and of theatrical, choreographic and musical works. It is the largest festival devoted to French-speaking arts in France. In Poitiers, Les Expressifs puts on the same day more than sixty-five free shows of street theatre, dance, circus, digital arts and puppetry in the streets of the city centre.
In Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a week begins instead. The International Film Festival opens this Saturday with around twenty feature films and ten short films, devoted since 2014 to first and second films by directors from around the world, at the Le Sélect cinema. In Saint-Just-le-Martel, the international caricature festival closes this Sunday, October 4, its ten days of press cartooning.
In Nérac, the Rencontres Chaland open a second day of signings. Created in 2008 by Isabelle Beaumenay-Joannet and the town of Nérac, they pay tribute to comic-book author and illustrator Yves Chaland (1957-1990), tied to the Ligne Claire style and who spent his youth in Nérac. In Pau, crime fiction takes over instead. The André Labarrère media library hosts Un Aller-Retour dans le Noir, which gathers crime-fiction authors around the Libération prize awarded every year by the association ARDN, between a country and a literary area chosen for each edition, through the choice of its godmother or godfather.
In Saillac, in Corrèze, walnuts take the lead instead. The Fête de la Noix honours, every two years, the local Marbot variety, whose home village dates back to the 14th century, with walnut-oil-making demonstrations, walnut-wine tastings and a local-produce market, this Sunday. In Montfort-en-Chalosse, in the Landes, grape harvest takes the stage. The Fête des Vendanges has grapes pressed in the wine cellar of the Chalosse museum this Saturday, before the new wine is tapped. Under the village's covered market hall, a local wine market completes the day, in the winegrowing tradition of the Chalosse.
Entry stays free for all sixty-five shows of Les Expressifs, in Poitiers, a tradition launched by the association Poitiers Jeunes in 1996.
