Events and festivals in Brittany on October 3-4, 2026: Court Métrange wraps up its competition in Rennes, alongside the Saint-Brieuc fair, the Erquy regatta and the closing of La Gacilly's photo festival.
France's only fantastic short film festival
Court Métrange is the only festival in France dedicated to fantastic, strange and unusual short films. It has been held in Rennes since 2003, at the Cinéma Pathé, run by a Rennes-based association.
Six days of programming: an international competition, special screenings, talks, an exhibition strand and a Young Audience trail for schools. Short films arrive from several countries for this competition, screened in front of the Rennes audience.
France's National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image classifies it as category 1.
Opened on September 29, the festival closes its sixth and final day this Sunday, October 4, in the same hall that saw it begin. Competition, screenings and talks all wrap up together, on the same day.
The rest of the weekend in Brittany
Le Grand Soufflet puts accordions and bagpipes centre stage. Bandoneons and concertinas join them, carrying music that runs from Breton trad to Argentine tango, from Celtic tunes to Balkan music; the Grand Soufflet association has run this departmental festival from 123 Boulevard de Verdun. A few streets away, Maintenant takes over. Concerts, exhibitions, installations and talks spread across about ten venues in Rennes Métropole, over four to ten days, a line-up the Electroni[k] association has organised since 2001.
On October 2, Dinan opens its library to the public. Bibli en Folie fills it, for three days, with activities, exhibitions, book sales and treasure hunts, as part of the national « Biblis en folie » days coordinated by the Ministry of Culture. In Saint-Brieuc, trade and festivities take over. The Foire Saint-Michel, organised by the Union du Commerce Boutik'n'Co, brings together resident and travelling traders, secondhand dealers and street entertainment in the pedestrian streets of the town centre, one of the oldest trade and festive gatherings in town.
The Guic and the Léguer meet at Belle-Isle-en-Terre. Their confluence gives its name to the Festival Blues des Deux Rivières, created in the early 2000s: three days of concerts, from October 2 to 4, spanning acoustic blues, Chicago blues and Delta blues. In Erquy, the regatta runs for two days. The Erquy Fun Cup gathers at the marina, in the bay of Saint-Brieuc, windsurfing, windfoiling, wingfoiling and kitesurfing, organised by the Centre Nautique, which took over and renamed the event in 2023, after it had long been raced as a long-distance megaslalom under the name WARP LD, before switching to a slalom format for this 2026 edition. This Saturday, the spotlight moves to Saint-Goazec. In the grounds of the Trévarez estate, the Finistère Événements association sets up two days of music, food and Breton games under the banner Ils sont fous ces Bretons, between the Breton outdoors and local tradition.
