The Foire du Dauphiné in Romans-sur-Isère

The Glycines site, in Romans-sur-Isère, in the Drôme. The Foire du Dauphiné was born there in 1930, to revive the local economy after the 1929 crisis, and has counted since among the first fairs in France, and among the major fairs of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It returns every year, in late September.

More than 400 exhibitors occupy 23,000 square metres on the site, spanning housing, food, cars, tourism, new technology and craftwork, astride late September and early October. It runs close to ten days. Rides and concerts join the trade and public stands. The site sits in the La Monnaie district.

Open since September 26, the fair runs through October 5, 2026, taking in both Saturday, October 3, and Sunday, October 4 (3-4 October). Visitors cross paths there with local craftspeople. Other exhibitors show the latest in housing, cars or mobility, in a single place, over several days. The October 3-4 weekend falls within these ten open days.

The rest of the weekend

Since 1977, the International Comics Festival has brought together dozens of authors and illustrators at Savoiexpo, in Chambéry, for a weekend of signings, exhibitions, talks and meetings, one of the oldest comics festivals in France, run by the association Chambéry BD for fans of comics, manga and illustration. In Chamalières, the Royat-Chamalières Book Fair opens its doors. The duo Steel Alive sets up the Alive Dub Festival in the woods, in Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire, for two days of sound system powered by the Dub Addict Sound System. Founded in 1995, the Nuits Romantiques du Lac du Bourget closes its ten days of classical music this Sunday, with internationally renowned artists gathered to celebrate the Romantic repertoire across the town's heritage sites and the shores of Lac du Bourget.

The Jazz Club de Grenoble has organised the Grenoble Alpes Métropole Jazz Festival in Fontaine since 2005, filling about ten partner venues of the metropolitan area with contemporary jazz, swing, soul, funk and Brazilian music. Chefs, craftspeople and producers gather in Thonon-les-Bains, on the shores of Lake Geneva, for Toques en Chablais: cooking workshops, a producers' market, the Challenge des Mains d'Or pastry contest and the suspended meal Dinner in the Sky, at the Parc du Belvédère.

Across Drôme and Ardèche, les Turlupinades stop for a single day, with free tabletop games open to all from 10am to 6pm, in a different town each year. The Vivarais Cinema Festival closes on Saturday.

Two dates fixed on the first weekend of October

The Royat-Chamalières Book Fair and les Turlupinades return every year on this same date. The first weekend of October, for one. The first Saturday, for the other.

The book fair, founded in 2013 by the towns of Royat and Chamalières with their tourist office, took over from the former Fête du Livre de Royat, at the Casino de Royat, 143 avenue de Royat, in Chamalières.

Les Turlupinades, for their part, have existed since 2001. The Collectif jeu 26-07 sends them touring to a different town in Drôme or Ardèche each year, always on the first Saturday of October. Strategy, skill, chance and logic games, plus role-playing games, are there for anyone to try, free of charge. They are the oldest touring game festival in Drôme-Ardèche.

The Grenoble Alpes Métropole Jazz Festival continues through October 11.
