Nine Days of Camargue Tradition in Aigues-Mortes
Old centre, Plan des Théâtres. Each year, the Aigues-Mortes votive fair takes over the medieval town, and the 2026 edition opens on 03/10/2026 for nine days of festivities running through October 11.
The streets change face from day one.
Abrivados, bandidos, encierros. This Camargue tradition repeated every year in the streets of the old town comes with the arena alive too, with Camargue bull-running events taking place there while encierros punctuate each day of the weekend.
Bandas and dances animate the evenings, while open-air meals in the fields bring residents together, and a pétanque competition joins in, run from start to finish by the town of Aigues-Mortes. One single organiser: the town.
Sport, celebration and shared meals thus follow one another for nine days, from October 3 to 11, inside the same medieval town.
The Rest of the Weekend
In Toulouse, Cinespaña celebrates its 31st edition. Born in 1996, the Spanish and Portuguese film festival of Toulouse and Occitania offers, through October 11, a wide panorama, from feature films in competition to retrospectives, by way of documentaries, shorts, animation, special screenings and meetings with film crews. The Cugnaux fair, in Haute-Garonne, marks its 137th edition, born in 1890, and it gives a yearly boost to the cultural and tourist life of the town and the wider department. The fair meets on Avenue du Général-Barès.
First weekend of October, as ever, Aurignac Sous Pression gathers craft brewers, motorbikes and vintage cars in the village hall, in Haute-Garonne, since 2011. Denis Messmer founded it. Each edition puts a region or theme centre stage, through the music and food on offer, and in Perpignan, the Jazzèbre festival has lived to the rhythm of jazz since 1989, for nearly three weeks between September and October. Its address: 18 Rue Rempart Villeneuve, in Perpignan. Its eclectic line-up of improvised and world music is run by the STRASS association, across the Pyrénées-Orientales and Aude.
Ten days, one baroque thread. Jean-Marc Andrieu and his Orchestre Les Passions open, each autumn, ten days of baroque music in Montauban with the Festival Passions Baroques, and the route runs from the Théâtre Olympe de Gouges to the Abbaye de Belleperche, by way of the Église Saint-Jacques and the Musée Ingres Bourdelle. In Gaillac, more than 22 authors and illustrators gather since 1996 for the Gaillac Youth and Teen Book Festival, and the free weekend mixes shows, workshops, signings, exhibitions and literary talks at the town's performance hall. Twenty-two authors, one free weekend.
