About Apples and Pears Festival

ℹ️ Festival discontinued. "Apples and Pears Festival", a pomological event organized at the Musée du Poiré in Barenton (Manche), no longer takes place as a major annual event. The last dated occurrences found date back to 2007 and then to October 6, 2019. The museum now maintains seasonal pressing activities and workshops, but the major pomological festival as such is no longer scheduled.

ℹ️ Festival discontinued. "Apples and Pears Festival" no longer takes place in the form of a major annual pomological day. The only dated editions found are those of 2007 and October 6, 2019. Since then, the Musée du Poiré offers pressing workshops and activities throughout the season, without renewing the dedicated event. The information below is kept for archival purposes.

Apples and Pears Festival, at the Musée du Poiré

The event was held at the Musée du Poiré, established in 1983 in an old farm in the Norman bocage at La Logeraie, in Barenton (50720), a site attached to the Normandie-Maine Regional Natural Park. Free of charge, the festival celebrated the fruit and cider heritage of the bocage.

Pomological Exhibition and Variety Identification

Visitors could discover an exhibition of about a hundred varieties of apples and pears, in connection with the museum's conservatory orchard. Expert pomologists identified fruits brought by visitors on site and provided advice on planting and maintenance.

Pressing and Cider-making Expertise

Pressing and juice-making workshops, as well as demonstrations around poiré — an emblematic drink of the Domfrontais region — allowed the transmission of local cider-making expertise to the general public and families alike.
