Ariège's Nature in the Spotlight

The Ariège Grandeur Nature Festival is the flagship event of ANA-CEN Ariège, one of France's oldest and most active naturalist associations. Created to offer the general public a moment of discovery and awareness of the biodiversity of the Ariège Pyrenees, the festival brings together naturalists, scientists, nature guides, and enthusiasts for a festive and friendly day. The event traditionally takes place in early October, in Cos, around the Maison de la Biodiversité of ANA-CEN, in Couserans.

A Rich Program Blending Science and Festivities

The festival offers a dense and varied program, accessible to all ages:

• Thematic Stands: wild plants, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, bats, aquatic environments, forests, wetlands, geology, and many other subjects are presented by ANA-CEN naturalists and their partners.
• Conferences and Video Reports: specialists present the results of their research and their field observations, with immersive projections and naturalist narratives.
• Workshops and Activities: botanical identification workshops, ornithological observation, sound immersion in the Ariège landscapes, educational games for children, and guided nature walks in the surroundings.
• Creators' Market: local artisans and producers present their products related to nature and the Ariège terroir.
• Concerts and Festive Evening: the day concludes with concerts and a festive evening starting at 9 PM.

ANA-CEN Ariège, Guardian of Biodiversity

ANA-CEN Ariège (Association des Naturalistes de l'Ariège - Conservatoire d'Espaces Naturels) is a 1901 law association that has been working for over 30 years for the knowledge, protection, and enhancement of the natural heritage of the Ariège department. It manages several nature reserves, conducts faunistic and floristic inventories, participates in the conservancy management of natural environments, and offers more than 100 free outings and activities per year open to all. The Ariège Grandeur Nature festival is the annual showcase of this field action, a moment of sharing and transmission between naturalists and the general public.

Cos, Setting for the House of Biodiversity

Since the inauguration of the Maison de la Biodiversité in Cos, the festival has moved closer to the ANA-CEN headquarters, in this small commune neighboring Foix. Located at the foot of the Pyrenees, Cos offers a privileged natural setting — meadows, forests, and rivers — ideal for deploying activities, guided walks, and open-air concerts. The Saturday morning market in La Bastide-de-Sérou (15 km away), where the festival was previously held, remains a complementary cultural stop for an Ariège weekend.
