An agricultural fair in the heart of Foix
Every second weekend of October, the Champ de Mars in Foix hosts the Foire de la Barguillère, a large agricultural and craft fair celebrating the rural world of Ariège. For over fifteen years, this event has brought together breeders, producers, artisans, and visitors around the agricultural traditions of the Barguillère valley and the entire Ariège department. The fair is a moment of sharing and conviviality that revives the great livestock fairs that once animated the Pyrenean towns.
Livestock at the heart of the fair
The Foire de la Barguillère highlights local breeds and the animal genetic heritage of Ariège. You will find cattle, calves, Gascon pigs, sheep, Pyrenean goats, poultry, geese, and ducks presented by local breeders. The exhibitors' village offers an immersion into the world of livestock farming with shearing demonstrations, presentations of old breeds, and animal competitions.
Local products and crafts
The producers' village offers a selection of local products from Ariège: mountain cheeses, cured meats, honeys, jams, wines, and processed products. Artisans showcase their skills: woodworking, blacksmithing, basket weaving, pottery, and textiles. A catering area allows you to taste local specialties. On Saturday evening, a local product meal is organized in Cos by reservation, bringing guests together around a menu of local products.
Woodcutter competitions and rural entertainment
The woodcutter competitions are one of the fair's main attractions, with spectacular sawing and felling demonstrations. The wood and equipment area, set up on the allées de Villotte, displays forestry and agricultural equipment. Educational workshops allow children and adults to discover rural life skills. Organized by the association Rambail en Barguillère with the support of the Chamber of Agriculture of Ariège, the fair is a free event open to all.
