The Ballancourt-sur-Essonne Heritage Festival: A Celebration Rooted in the Valley
Ballancourt-sur-Essonne (91610) is a picturesque town in the Essonne valley, nestled between forests and the river, about fifty kilometers south of Paris. Every autumn, during the European Heritage Days, the town organizes its grand Heritage Festival at Parc Christian Imbert. This event is an opportunity to celebrate the rich natural, historical, and architectural heritage of the commune and its valley.
Parc Christian Imbert: A Bucolic Setting for the Festival
Parc Christian Imbert, the central green space of Ballancourt-sur-Essonne, offers an ideal setting for this heritage celebration. Its shaded paths, lawns, and century-old trees form an exceptional natural stage for the day's activities. In September, the park dons its first autumn colors, adding a poetic touch to the event.
A Festive and Enchanting Program
The Heritage Festival program is designed to delight young and old alike. Starting at 5 PM, activities begin with pony and carriage rides, very popular with children and families. Jugglers and street artists roam the park, creating moments of wonder around the paths. Balloon artists create colorful sculptures and characters for the delight of the little ones.
Giant wooden games — molkky, pétanque, palet, tug-of-war — invite all ages to moments of play and friendly competition. Food stalls offer a varied selection for families wishing to dine on-site.
At 7:30 PM, the program continues with a dancing dinner featuring Basque chicken as the star dish (10 EUR per person, reservation required at the town hall from September 1st). The orchestra Old's Cool provides musical entertainment for the meal and the dance party. The day concludes at 9:30 PM with a sound and light show combining lasers, visual effects, and projections, a magical moment that illuminates the park to the great joy of the spectators.
Château du Saussay: A Jewel of Local Heritage
A few kilometers from the center of Ballancourt-sur-Essonne stands the Château du Saussay, a historic monument that testifies to the commune's rich heritage. This 18th-century castle is one of the symbols of local history and inspires the heritage activities offered during the festival. The Heritage Days are an opportunity to explore this architectural and historical heritage with guided tours and thematic exhibitions.
The Ballancourt Festival Committee: An Essential Player
The Ballancourt Festival Committee (comitedesfetesdeballancourt.e-monsite.com) plays a central role in organizing the Heritage Festival and other festive events in the commune. This association of passionate volunteers helps keep local festive traditions alive and strengthens the social bond among the inhabitants of Ballancourt-sur-Essonne, a rural commune with a strong identity.
