Grand summer festival of Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise AOC: wine tastings from the Dentelles, music, and festive atmosphere under the Provençal stars
In the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail, on the clay-limestone terraces of the Ventoux foothills, Beaumes-de-Venise produces one of France's most famous and appreciated wines: Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise AOC, a sweet natural wine made from the Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains grape variety. This wine, with its great aromatic complexity—notes of white flowers, candied apricot, honey, exotic fruits, and licorice—is obtained by mutage on the marc, a technique that stops fermentation and preserves the natural sweetness of the grape.
The Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise appellation, one of France's first AOCs (1945), covers 500 hectares of vines in the communes of Beaumes-de-Venise and Aubignan, in a landscape of limestone hills covered with fragrant garrigue and vineyards. The Cave des Vignerons de Beaumes-de-Venise, founded in 1956, is the main producer and tireless promoter of this exceptional wine in national and international markets.
The Bodéga du Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise is the village's major summer event. Born several years ago from the desire of winemakers and residents to share their passion for Muscat in a Mediterranean festive spirit, the Bodéga has become, in just a few editions, one of the most popular summer events in northern Vaucluse. Its 8th edition in 2025 confirms its status as an unmissable event for lovers of good wine and Provençal conviviality.
The event takes place on the village square of Beaumes-de-Venise and in the adjacent areas, transformed for the occasion into a vast open-air festival space. Pop-up cellars, wine bars, and tasting stands welcome visitors in a Spanish bodéga atmosphere adapted to Provençal codes: evening warmth, a glass of Muscat in hand, live music, and tables laden with tapas and local specialties.
The Bodéga is above all a great winemakers' festival. Wineries from Beaumes-de-Venise and neighboring appellations gather to offer their best vintages for tasting. Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise AOC is obviously the star of the evening, presented in different styles depending on the producers: the golden and expressive Muscat from the Cave des Vignerons, more confidential and mineral Muscats from smaller estates, and cuvées vinified with late harvests or passerillage for extreme flavor concentration.
Alongside Muscat, winemakers from the Gigondas and Vacqueyras appellations—the two great red AOCs of the Dentelles de Montmirail—offer their characterful reds, with elegant tannins and aromas of black fruits, spices, and garrigue. These great Southern Rhône wines, often compared to the best Châteauneuf-du-Pape, are well worth discovering at the Bodéga, in the relaxed atmosphere of a Provençal summer evening.
The Bodéga is also a musical celebration. Several concerts and DJ sets liven up the evening, with a program mixing world music, flamenco, salsa, French pop, and acoustic rock, echoing the Mediterranean spirit of the festival. Stages and podiums set up on the village square host regional and national artists for free concerts or concerts included in the entrance ticket, making the Bodéga night a true dancing celebration.
The atmosphere of the Bodéga du Muscat is that of a Mediterranean night, where the warmth of the Provençal summer, the magic of the Dentelles de Montmirail as a backdrop, a chilled glass of Muscat, and live music combine to create an unforgettable festive atmosphere. It's the kind of event that participants remember long after the last note of music.
Beaumes-de-Venise is a wine-growing village of great beauty, nestled in a natural amphitheater carved into the Dentelles de Montmirail, these jagged white limestone formations that are the landscape symbol of the Provençal Ventoux. The village, with its ochre stone houses and vineyards on the hillsides, is a living picture of authentic wine-growing Provence.
The territory of Beaumes-de-Venise offers extraordinary hiking opportunities in the Dentelles de Montmirail, with marked trails crossing vineyards, garrigue, and limestone cliffs, offering panoramas of the Comtat plain, Mont Ventoux, and the Alpilles. The Chapelle Notre-Dame d'Aubune (12th century), perched on a hill above the village, is a masterpiece of Provençal Romanesque architecture and a must-see walk from Beaumes-de-Venise.
The Bodéga du Muscat is organized in a spirit of friendliness and accessibility. The modest entrance ticket includes Muscat tastings and musical entertainment. Food options are available on-site, with tapas, cheeses, charcuterie, and Provençal specialties prepared by local producers and restaurateurs. The event is accessible to families, groups of friends, and wine lovers of all levels, in a festive and unpretentious spirit.
