Bugul Noz: Mellac's Night Celebration
Bugul Noz ('night shepherd' in Breton, a creature from Breton folklore) is a music and craft festival that has settled in Mellac, a commune in Finistère near Quimperlé. Organized by the Collectif Tomahawk, this human-sized event celebrates music in all its forms in a warm and family-friendly atmosphere.
An Eclectic and Festive Program
Bugul Noz stands out for the diversity of its musical programming. In one weekend, the festival offers a musical journey ranging from folk blues to progressive rock, from festive songs to Celtic chants, from Afro-Cuban funk to acid techno and hard house DJ sets. The 2025 edition notably hosted Blue Moon (folk blues), Uch-K (progressive rock), Les P'tits Yeux (festive songs), Stew & Høti (DJ set), Noëmie Le Cam (Celtic chants), and LWAS Orchestra (Afro-Cuban funk).
Much More Than a Music Festival
Beyond the concerts, Bugul Noz is a true cultural and artisanal gathering. The festival features a market of local artisans and producers, creative workshops, various activities, Breton tales with Patrik Ewen, donkey rides, photo exhibitions, and even a magician. The Fanfare Guelloh guel animates the site with its musical parades, creating a joyful and participatory atmosphere.
An Accessible and Friendly Weekend
Bugul Noz cultivates values of accessibility and friendliness. Saturday evening is dedicated to concerts (from 6 PM to 3 AM) with a modest price, while Sunday is entirely free (from 11 AM to 9 PM), with a family program mixing outdoor concerts, storytelling, workshops, and a market. Local catering is available on-site, with a bar offering local Breton products. The event does not offer camping, but the setting of the Espace François Mitterrand is ideally suited for this type of weekend format.
