About Ciné Montagne Film Festival
Every year, the Rencontres Ciné Montagne brings together a curated selection of films dedicated to outdoor mountain activities in Grenoble, including mountaineering, skiing, climbing, and trail running in non-mechanized environments. Supported by the City of Grenoble through Grenoble Montagne, the event spans five evenings at the Palais des Sports and attracts nearly 20,000 spectators, making it one of the largest mountain film festivals in Europe. A programming committee, composed of industry professionals and randomly selected audience members, chooses French and international short and feature films for the diversity of activities they showcase and for the authentic, low-impact adventures they depict.
Ciné Montagne Film Festival — edition 2026
Five evenings of mountain films at the Palais des Sports, from October 13 to 17, featuring para-climbing athlete Solenne Piret as the event patron. Highlights include Jérémy Bigé's trek across the Himalayas, Vivian Bruchez's quest to climb all 82 peaks over 4,000m, and a caving expedition in Papua New Guinea. Each evening, guests will join us at Le Refuge to discuss their films, and Wednesday afternoon is free for families.
The 28th edition takes place from October 13 to 17, 2026, at the Palais des Sports in Grenoble, earlier in the autumn than usual. Doors open at 6:00 PM and screenings begin at 7:30 PM, with an intermission where authors and athletes meet the audience.
Alongside the films, the partner village features food trucks, bars, clothing repair services, and a photo exhibition on pastoralism. The Maison des Rencontres offers workshops and lectures at the Maison de la Montagne, while the Spéléogrimpe Park provides free introductory climbing and caving sessions.
