Open-air contemporary art exhibition in the village of Eus
Croisée d'Arts is a contemporary art festival organized for over twenty years by the association ArtZ in the village of Eus, classified among the most beautiful villages in France, in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Every first weekend of June, the alleys, squares, communal spaces, and private houses of the village are transformed into an open-air art gallery, hosting works by contemporary artists in an eclectic and free tour. The event is based on two founding principles: the eclecticism of artistic disciplines and free access.
For over twenty years, Croisée d'Arts has transformed the village of Eus into a vast open-air art gallery every first weekend of June. Organized by the association ArtZ, this contemporary art event invites visitors to wander through the cobbled alleys, sunny squares, and stone houses of this hilltop village, classified among the Most Beautiful Villages in France, to discover artworks scattered throughout the village.
Croisée d'Arts is based on two founding principles: eclecticism and free access. The works presented cover a wide spectrum of disciplines: painting, sculpture, photography, installation, digital arts, ceramics, textiles, and other forms of contemporary expression. The exhibition spaces are as varied as the works: communal spaces, public squares, and numerous private homes whose owners open their doors for the occasion, creating a surprising and intimate artistic journey.
The marriage of contemporary art and the ancestral architecture of Eus creates a unique dialogue between creation and heritage. The stone walls, medieval vaults, panoramic terraces overlooking the Canigou, and secret gardens become showcases for the artworks, offering unexpected perspectives and enhancing both the artistic creations and the architectural setting of the village.
Croisée d'Arts is also a moment of meeting between artists, residents, and visitors. The ArtZ association launches an annual call for applications open to artists from all backgrounds, with a selection made before the festival. The involvement of the residents, who host the artworks in their homes, makes Croisée d'Arts an event deeply rooted in the village's life and driven by collective dynamics.
