Contemporary dance festival at Mac Orlan in Brest
The Décadanse Festival is a contemporary dance festival presented by Mac Orlan, a performance venue of the City of Brest particularly dedicated to dance. Created in 2022 as the heir to the Désordre and La Becquée festivals, it brings together the towns of Brest, Gouesnou, Guipavas, and Plougastel-Daoulas each January to offer the public a program dedicated to established artists on the choreographic scene. For two weeks, shows, performances, and workshops allow attendees to discover the multiple facets of contemporary dance, to marvel, and to question diverse aesthetics.
The Décadanse Festival is a winter contemporary dance event in Brest, presented by Mac Orlan, a municipal performance venue particularly dedicated to dance. Located in the Recouvrance district, this former 1960s cinema was taken over by the City of Brest in 2008 to become a reference point for choreographic creation.
Décadanse was born in 2022 from the desire to broaden the scope of play and exploration of the former festivals Désordre and La Becquée, by offering an annual highlight dedicated to established artists on the choreographic scene. The festival took over from these events to offer a metropolitan-scale event, bringing together several municipalities around dance.
The Décadanse Festival brings together the towns of Brest, Gouesnou, Guipavas, and Plougastel-Daoulas to offer a broad program dedicated to dance. This metropolitan dimension allows for reaching diverse audiences and bringing contemporary dance to various venues: performance halls, public spaces, and local cultural facilities.
For two weeks in January, the festival offers shows, performances, and workshops that allow attendees to discover the richness and diversity of today's contemporary dance. The program highlights established artists with diverse aesthetics, inviting the public to dance, marvel, and question various and demanding choreographic forms.
Each season, Mac Orlan offers two regular events centered around dance: the Contre-temps festival in October, focused on emerging forms, and the Décadanse festival in January, dedicated to established artists. This dual programming makes Mac Orlan a central player in the choreographic life of Brest and Brittany, with a strong commitment to creation, dissemination, and artist support.
The 5th edition of the Décadanse Festival runs from January 17 to 31, 2026, at Mac Orlan and in the municipalities of Brest, Gouesnou, Guipavas, and Plougastel-Daoulas. Two weeks to explore the multiple facets of contemporary dance.
