A festival born from the Do It Yourself spirit
The Docks It Yourself festival was born in 2016 from the desire of Les Docks, the Scène de Musiques Actuelles (SMAC) of Cahors, to renew its annual open-air festival. Successor to the "Visages du Monde" festival (itself stemming from "Visages Francophones" created in 2002), it adopted a new name chosen by the public in a participatory vote organized in the fall of 2016. Among five proposals submitted to the vote, "Docks It Yourself" was chosen, embodying the Do It Yourself spirit dear to the Cahors venue.
A multidisciplinary festival on the Allées Fénelon
The festival takes over the Allées Fénelon, an emblematic promenade in the city center of Cahors, to offer several days of open-air concerts and free cultural activities. The musical program mixes headliners and discoveries in various genres: pop, rock, electro, chanson, world music, and hip-hop.
An eclectic and unifying program
For its first edition under this name in June 2016, the Docks It Yourself festival hosted leading artists:
- L.E.J (a cappella pop), attracting nearly 3,000 spectators
- Cœur de Pirate (pop chanson), in front of 1,500 people for the closing night
- Awa Ly, Italian-Ethiopian soul and folk singer
- We Are IV, alternative rock band
- Sage, emerging artist
- DJ Click, explorer of global electronic music
- Ilaria Graziano & Francesco Forni, Italian folk duo
- Sound of Noise
- Simja Dujov
Beyond music
The festival is not limited to concerts. It offers a real festive village with free access, including graffiti performances, breakdance demonstrations, participatory cultural workshops, and exhibitions. A food court with world flavors completes the offering, transforming the Allées Fénelon into a place for living and sharing for several days.
Les Docks, cradle of urban cultures in Cahors
The festival is supported by Les Docks de Cahors, a venue labeled SMAC since 2015, located at 430 Allée des Soupirs, facing the famous Pont Valentré. Inaugurated in March 2000, this cultural hub dedicated to contemporary music and urban cultures has a 600-seat concert hall, a 600 m² indoor skatepark, and a graffiti park. Under the direction of Stéphane Delpech, Les Docks develops an ambitious program combining diffusion, creation, and artistic education throughout the Lot region.
From Visages du Monde to Docks It Yourself
The festival is part of a long tradition of festivals in Cahors. Born in 2002 under the name "Visages Francophones", the SMAC's annual event became "Visages du Monde" and then "Docks It Yourself" in 2016, before being renamed Let's Docks from 2017 onwards. Each evolution marked a turning point in the festival's identity, moving from a program focused on the French-speaking world to a multidisciplinary event celebrating emerging cultures and musical diversity.
