Argentine tango festival by the sea in Port-Louis
Estival Tango was born from the passion of the association An Oriant Tango, based in Lorient, for Argentine tango. Every year in June, the festival takes over the Port de Locmalo in Port-Louis, offering dancers a unique setting between the sea and historical heritage. The citadel of Port-Louis and the Lorient estuary serve as a backdrop for this event that combines dance, music, and conviviality.
The Estival Tango program revolves around open-air milongas, these Argentine tango dances that take place in the evening facing the sea. DJs specializing in tango music accompany the dancers late into the night. During the day, dance workshops are offered for all levels, from beginner to advanced, led by experienced dancers.
Port-Louis, with its marina, its 17th-century citadel, and its historic streets, offers an incomparable setting for a tango festival. The milongas are held outdoors, allowing participants to dance with a view of the ocean. An asado (Argentine barbecue) is traditionally organized to strengthen the spirit of sharing and conviviality that characterizes tango culture.
Estival Tango is part of the dynamism of the Breton tango community, driven by the association An Oriant Tango, which organizes classes, practicas, and milongas throughout the year in the Lorient region. The festival is the annual highlight for this community, bringing together dancers from all over France and sometimes from abroad for an unforgettable weekend of dance and encounters.
The Estival Tango returns to Port-Louis from June 26 to 28, 2026, at Port de Locmalo, for a weekend entirely dedicated to Argentine tango. As every year, the An Oriant Tango association offers open-air milongas in the evening, dance workshops for all levels during the day, as well as an asado (Argentine barbecue) in the spirit of sharing that characterizes the Breton tango community.
The milongas are held by the sea, facing the Lorient harbor, within the heritage setting of Port-Louis and its 17th-century citadel. The detailed program (speakers, workshop and milonga schedules) is communicated by the association closer to the event.
Port-Louis is located 25 minutes from Lorient via the D781. Free parking is available near the Port de Locmalo. From Vannes, allow about 1 hour by road via the N165 then the D781.
The CTRL bus line connects Lorient to Port-Louis. In summer, sea shuttles provide the crossing from Lorient (Compagnie Océane). The nearest train station is Lorient, served by TGV from Paris (3.5 hours).
The milongas and workshops take place at the Port de Locmalo, a seaside location offering a unique setting for outdoor dancing. In case of bad weather, an indoor alternative is planned.
An asado (Argentine barbecue) is organized during the festival. A refreshment stand also offers drinks and snacks throughout the evenings.
Access to the milongas is charged, approximately 15 euros per evening for association members. Membership in An Oriant Tango is required to participate. Dance workshops are priced separately.
Port-Louis and its surroundings offer various accommodation options: hotels, bed and breakfasts, campsites, and seasonal rentals. It is advisable to book in advance as the summer period is in high demand on the Morbihan coast.
