On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Bonifacio honors Saint Erasmus (Sant'Eramu), patron saint of sailors and fishermen, during one of the city's oldest maritime traditions.
The celebration is organized by the Saint Erasmus brotherhood, the most recent of Bonifacio's brotherhoods, which appeared in 1893 and is recognizable by its white alb and purple camail. It brings together the fishermen and seafarers of the commune.
The reliquary of Saint Erasmus, preserved in the small Saint Erasmus church located in the marina, is brought out every June 2nd to be carried in procession. After the solemn mass, the procession accompanies the saint through the port before the blessing of the sea, a tribute to lost sailors and a plea for the protection of fishermen for the upcoming season.
As in other Corsican ports (Ajaccio, Saint-Florent, L'ÃŽle-Rousse, Propriano), Saint Erasmus Day blends religious fervor, brotherhood traditions, and port life in a powerful moment of Bonifacio's maritime identity.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not been published to date. The Saint Erasmus festival traditionally takes place in Bonifacio on June 2nd according to the following schedule:
