About Festes Baroques

Festes Baroques en Terre des Graves et du Sauternais is an early and baroque music festival that takes place annually around Bordeaux and the vineyards of Graves, Pessac-Léognan and Sauternais. Organized by an eponymous association based in La Brède (Gironde), it offers a series of concerts in remarkable heritage sites — churches in Bordeaux, wine châteaux, Maison des vins de Graves in Podensac, churches in the Graves communes — where each musical event is followed by a tasting of local wines.

Established in 2010, the festival has built a strong identity combining artistic excellence (ensembles specialized in early music, original thematic programs) and oenological conviviality. Its coverage area includes Bordeaux and the Communautés de Communes Convergence Garonne and Montesquieu.

Festes Baroques en Terre des Graves et du Sauternais — an early music festival rooted in the Bordeaux vineyard

Festes Baroques en Terre des Graves et du Sauternais is one of the unmissable events for early music in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Since 2010, the festival explores the baroque and Renaissance repertoire, in an approach that is both historical and creative, inviting leading French and European ensembles each year.

A journey through the Gironde heritage

The festival's uniqueness lies in its itinerancy: concerts unfold in a mosaic of heritage sites in the region, including the Chapelle de la Madeleine and the Église Sainte-Croix in Bordeaux, the Maison des vins de Graves in Podensac, Château Carbonnieux in Léognan, Château Bouscaut in Cadaujac, or Église Saint-Michel de Rieufret. This geography mirrors that of the Graves, Pessac-Léognan and Sauternais wine appellations.

Music and wine tasting

Each concert is followed by a tasting of Graves, Pessac-Léognan or Sauternes wines, in partnership with local wine councils and syndicates. This combination of artistic excellence and Gironde art de vivre defines the festival's identity.

A program that is both scholarly and accessible

The festival hosts ensembles specialized in early music (Ventosum, Apollo's Cabinet, Faenza, El Sol, Cyrnos, Sarbacanes…) with original thematic programs: music of the Doges of Venice, 16th-century English virginalists, Italian operas and arias, Hispanic repertoire of the 17th-18th centuries, cantatas and sacred motets. The 23rd edition (2026) offers six concerts between Bordeaux and the Graves region.

An association supported by local stakeholders

The festival is organized by the association « Festes Baroques en Terre des Graves et du Sauternais », whose headquarters are located at the town hall of La Brède (3 place Saint-Jean d'Etampes, 33650). It is supported by the Communauté de Communes de Montesquieu, the Conseil des vins de Graves, the Syndicat viticole de Pessac-Léognan and the DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

2026 Edition — 23rd edition of Festes Baroques

The 23rd edition of Festes Baroques en Terre des Graves et du Sauternais takes place from June 24 to July 4, 2026, between Bordeaux and the Gironde vineyard. The festival continues its exploration of ancient, historical and creative music, investing six heritage sites.

Six concerts, six universes

The 2026 program brings together ensembles specialized in original themes: a dialogue between the painter Artemisia Gentileschi and Queen Henrietta Maria of England, Giovanni Gabrieli's motets and canzones for ancient brass, a nocturnal journey between Biber, Tartini and Purcell, an "à la carte" show composed by the audience itself, and a Hispanic fresco from the 17th-18th centuries. The festival opens on June 24 with a public presentation meeting at La Machine à Musique (Bordeaux), hosted by Xavier Julien-Laferrière, in the presence of the programmed artists.

Tasting included

Each concert is followed by a tasting of Graves, Pessac-Léognan or Sauternes wines, in partnership with the Conseil des vins de Graves and the Syndicat viticole de Pessac-Léognan.
