The traditional circus festival in Vaucouleurs in Meuse
The Festi'Val des Couleurs du Cirque is a traditional circus festival that takes place every year at the end of May in Vaucouleurs, the town of Jehanne d'Arc in the Meuse region. Organized for over fifteen years by the Tourist Office, this five-day event offers shows under the big top, introductory workshops to circus arts, parades in town with a brass band, a dinner show, and an exchange fair.
Each year, the historic town of Vaucouleurs, known as the starting point for Jehanne d'Arc's journey to Chinon, is adorned with the colors of the circus for five days. The Festi'Val des Couleurs du Cirque is a unique event in the Meuse region that celebrates traditional circus in all its splendor: acrobatics, juggling, clowning, aerial acts, and animal training.
In partnership with the region's schools, the festival offers introductory workshops to circus arts for students. Led by professionals, children discover juggling, balance, acrobatics, and fundamental circus techniques.
The heart of the festival lies in the circus shows under the big top, presented on the weekend. Various acts combining physical prowess, humor, and poetry are offered by professional artists, including some from the prestigious Cirque d'Hiver Bouglione.
On Saturday morning, a grand parade crosses the streets of Vaucouleurs with a brass band, costumed artists, floats, and animals, creating a festive and colorful atmosphere throughout the town.
On Saturday evening, a dinner show with table service and drinks included offers a complete gastronomic and artistic experience under the big top. Reservation required.
On Sunday morning, an exchange fair for equipment, models, programs, and circus-related souvenirs brings together collectors and enthusiasts.
Over the years, the festival has hosted personalities from the circus world, including Sergio, master of ceremonies at Cirque d'Hiver Bouglione, Regina Bouglione, and Gregory Bellini. These prestigious presences attest to the seriousness and quality of the event.
Vaucouleurs, a small fortified town in the Meuse valley, is known worldwide as the town from which Jehanne d'Arc departed in 1429. The festival is part of the festive tradition of this town that knows how to welcome and celebrate.
