Open-air contemporary art biennale on the Pink Granite Coast
The Festival d'Art de l'Estran is an open-air contemporary art biennale that takes place on the coastline of the Côte de Granit Rose, between Trébeurden, Pleumeur-Bodou, and Trégastel. Created around 2007, this event invites artists from Brittany, France, and around the world to create ephemeral works — sculptures, installations, photographs, performances, and videos — in dialogue with the exceptional coastal landscapes. Free and accessible to all, the festival offers an immersive artistic trail along the coast, where contemporary art resonates with the granite nature of this remarkable site.
The Festival d'Art de l'Estran is an open-air contemporary art biennale that takes over the coastline of the Côte de Granit Rose, between the towns of Trébeurden, Pleumeur-Bodou, and Trégastel. Every two years, the coastal landscapes become the setting for an open-air exhibition where artists from all backgrounds create works specifically designed for the sites that host them.
The festival's unique feature is its in situ creation: each artist is invited to design a work in direct response to the location — pink granite rocks, foreshore, coastal paths, beaches, and protected natural areas. The disciplines represented cover sculpture, installation, photography, performance, and video. Around fifteen contemporary works are to be discovered along a free and accessible artistic trail.
The Festival d'Art de l'Estran is co-organized by Lannion-Trégor Communauté and the municipalities of Trébeurden, Trégastel, and Pleumeur-Bodou. Since its creation about seventeen years ago, it has established itself as a major event for contemporary art in Brittany, attracting a curious and diverse audience thanks to the quality of the invited artists and the incomparable beauty of the natural setting.
The festival also includes a Young Creation Project aimed at supporting and promoting emerging artists, offering them the opportunity to present their work in a professional context and an exceptional landscape setting.
The next edition of the Festival d'Art de l'Estran is expected in autumn 2027 on the coastline of the Côte de Granit Rose. The biennale will offer a new open-air contemporary art trail between Trébeurden, Pleumeur-Bodou, and Trégastel.
