About Festival de Gavarnie

ℹ️ Festival currently on hold. The Gavarnie Festival, a famous open-air theatre festival at the foot of the Cirque de Gavarnie (Hautes-Pyrénées), considered one of the highest in Europe, has not presented an edition since 2022. No edition is announced for 2026.

An emblematic high-altitude theatre festival in the Pyrenees

Founded in 1985 by François Joxe with the Chantier Théâtre, then carried by Bruno Spiesser's Théâtre Fébus, the Gavarnie Festival offered for decades major open-air theatre shows, performed at night at the foot of the Cirque de Gavarnie, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The public would walk to the Courade plateau, at an altitude of approximately 1,450 m, to attend adaptations of great repertoire texts.

The last documented edition was the 36th, in 2022, with Romeo and Juliet. The 2023, 2024, and 2025 editions did not take place. The association created in 2020 to take over the torch reported difficulties, and the local press was questioning in 2025 the chances of the festival's revival.

To date, the festival is therefore on hold and no 2026 edition is confirmed. If a new edition were to emerge, it would be announced on the official website and the festival's ticketing platform.

Festival de Gavarnie — edition 2026

ℹ️ No 2026 edition. The Gavarnie Festival is not offering a show in 2026. After the 36th edition in 2022 (Romeo and Juliet), the 2023, 2024, and 2025 editions did not take place: the festival is on hold and its return is not confirmed.

2026 Edition: No Show Announced

The Gavarnie Festival, an open-air theater at the foot of the Gavarnie cirque in the Hautes-Pyrénées, is not presenting an edition in 2026. As of the verification date, no program, no dates, and no open ticket sales have been announced by the organizing association.

The last documented edition was the 36th, in summer 2022, with the show Romeo and Juliet. The 2023, 2024, and 2025 editions did not take place. Local press in 2025 mentioned uncertainty about a possible revival of the festival.

Should a new edition be organized, information would be published on the official website and on the festival's Festik ticketing platform.
