About Renaissance d'Anet
Renaissance d'Anet — edition 2026
The "Dawn of the Renaissance" festival transports Anet back to the 16th century on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, within the grounds of Diane de Poitiers' château. A medieval market, historical reenactments, tournaments, artillery and archery displays, equestrian shows, and falconry demonstrations will unfold at the foot of this masterpiece by Philibert de l’Orme. Admission is free.
A Renaissance day in the grounds of the Château d’Anet
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the grounds of the Château d’Anet will step back in time. For one day, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, the estate of Diane de Poitiers transforms into a pre-Renaissance village. Titled "Dawn of the Renaissance," the festival highlights the transition between the fading Middle Ages and the emerging Renaissance, right where Philibert de l’Orme built one of the finest 16th-century French châteaux for the favorite of Henri II. Access to the festival is free and open to all, with no booking required.
A medieval market and continuous reenactments
The heart of the day is the medieval market set up in the park, featuring stalls to browse and artisans demonstrating traditional crafts. Surrounding the market, historical encampments offer a glimpse into daily life from that era. There is no fixed schedule, as activities run continuously from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, allowing you to wander from one camp to another at your own pace.
Tournaments, artillery, and archery
Tournaments and combat displays will punctuate the day, led by the Chevalerie initiatique troupe. Nearby, L’artilleur du roy will provide artillery firing demonstrations, and archery sessions will be available for visitors. These displays showcase the weaponry and military techniques from the turn of the century.
Equestrian show and birds of prey
Two highlights stand out in the program: an equestrian show featuring riders and their mounts in the park, and falconry demonstrations by Les Ailes de l’Urga, with birds of prey soaring over the estate. Period music and dancing will accompany the day between shows.
Taverns, refreshments, and parking on the Friche
Food and drink are available on-site, with refreshment stands and taverns scattered throughout the park, making it easy to spend the entire day with the family. Parking is located on the Friche, in the immediate vicinity of the Château d’Anet.

The Festival de la Renaissance d'Anet: A Journey to the Heart of the 16th Century
Each year, the town of Anet, in Eure-et-Loir, celebrates its exceptional Renaissance heritage through a festival dedicated to the golden age of the Château d'Anet. This architectural masterpiece, commissioned by King Henri II for his favorite Diane de Poitiers, was built from 1548 onwards by the renowned architect Philibert de l'Orme, with the participation of famous artists such as Benvenuto Cellini, Germain Pilon, and Jean Cousin.
Historical Shows and Reenactments
The festival features living historical reenactments evoking the lavish life of the Valois court. Troupes of actors in period costumes bring to life the glorious days of the château, staging the sumptuous festivities that Diane de Poitiers organized to receive the king and his court. Renaissance dance performances, sword fighting demonstrations, and early music concerts punctuate the festivities.
Renaissance Arts and Crafts
An artisans' village recreates Renaissance craftsmanship: illumination, calligraphy, leatherwork, goldsmithing, and stone carving. Visitors can watch demonstrations and learn these ancestral skills through participatory workshops. These activities highlight the artistic refinement that characterized the era of the château's construction.
The Château d'Anet and the Centre d'Interprétation de la Renaissance
The festival is supported by the Centre d'Interprétation de la Renaissance (CIR), a scenographic space located opposite the château. This center offers an immersive experience with a 360° room, interactive models, educational videos, and tactile games organized around four themes: Henri II, Diane de Poitiers, Philibert de l'Orme, and the château itself. The festival allows visitors to discover or rediscover this architectural heritage, classified as a historical monument.
A Heritage Event in Eure-et-Loir
The Festival de la Renaissance d'Anet contributes to the cultural and tourist influence of the Pays de Dreux and the Eure-et-Loir region. By combining live performance, built heritage, and cultural mediation, it offers a complete and accessible experience for all audiences, from history enthusiasts to families seeking discovery. The beauty of the site, with the monumental portal of the château and the funerary chapel of Diane de Poitiers, provides an ideal setting for this celebration of the French Renaissance.
