Classical music festival in the medieval village of Saint-Robert since 1972
The Festival de Saint-Robert was created in 1972 and has been celebrating classical music for over 50 years in the medieval village of Saint-Robert, classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Every summer, from mid-July to mid-August, the festival offers a program of classical music concerts, chamber music, recitals, and themed concerts with renowned artists from the international and national scene. The Festival de Saint-Robert is one of the oldest classical music festivals in France and a major player in cultural life in Corrèze.
The Festival de Saint-Robert hosts renowned artists from the classical scene every year: soloists, chamber music ensembles, orchestras, choirs, and vocal groups. The program combines baroque repertoire, classical and romantic music, contemporary music, and original creations. In 2024, the thematic edition “The festival goes to the movies” offered a program centered around film music with the Orchestre de Chambre de la Nouvelle Europe. This diversity of repertoires and artists allows it to reach a wide audience of music lovers and curious individuals eager to discover classical music in an exceptional setting.
The concerts take place in the Romanesque church of Saint-Robert, a historic 12th-century building listed as a historical monument. This church, with its sober and elegant architecture, offers remarkable acoustics that enhance chamber music, piano recitals, violin, opera singing, and ensemble concerts. The heritage and spiritual setting of the church adds a special dimension to the musical experience, creating an atmosphere of contemplation and communion with art.
The Festival de Saint-Robert is not limited to concerts alone. Throughout the summer, the village hosts art exhibitions — painting, sculpture, photography — in the medieval alleys and heritage sites. These exhibitions create a cultural trail through the village, inviting visitors to discover art in all its forms. The festival is thus part of a dynamic of enhancing the medieval heritage of Saint-Robert and promoting living culture in Corrèze. With over 50 years of existence, the Festival de Saint-Robert is a must-attend summer event for lovers of classical music and heritage.
