Travelling street arts in Seine-Eure
The Festival des Embarqués is a major street arts event organized by the Agglomération Seine-Eure. In June, the "Escales" travel through about ten towns with free theatre, circus, music, and dance shows. The festival culminates in a grand weekend at the Parc de Léry-Poses, between land and water, with spectacular creations, acrobatic performances, and a grand aerial finale. Free and itinerant, it has become an unmissable cultural event in the Eure region.
The Festival des Embarqués has established itself as the flagship cultural event of the Agglomération Seine-Eure, in the Eure department of Normandy. Combining street arts, itinerant performances, and live shows, this free festival offers a unique artistic experience that takes over the towns of the region before culminating in the exceptional setting of the Parc de Léry-Poses.
For one to two weeks before the main weekend, the Escales of the Festival des Embarqués travel through about ten towns in the Seine-Eure agglomeration. Performing arts companies offer free shows in the villages and towns of the region, bringing theatre, circus, music, dance, and humour closer to the residents. This itinerant approach embodies the spirit of the festival: making culture accessible to all, regardless of where they live.
The towns hosting the Escales change each year, creating an element of surprise and renewal. Acquigny, Alizay, Andé, Heudebouville, Heudreville-sur-Eure, Pîtres, and many other villages have thus seen their squares and gardens transformed into ephemeral stages.
The highlight of the festival takes place the weekend after the Escales, at the Parc de Léry-Poses, a vast natural space between land and water. This open-air theatre hosts a rich program of shows: acrobatic performances, circus creations, concerts, plays, choreographies, and participatory events. The public wanders freely between the different stages and performance areas, in a festive and friendly atmosphere.
Each edition concludes with a grand aerial and musical finale, often entrusted to internationally renowned companies like Transe Express. This closing show, blending music, acrobatics, and aerial visual effects, is a moment of grace and wonder that brings together thousands of spectators by the water, under the Norman sky.
Les Embarqués revisits the pagan ceremonies of the summer solstice and Saint John's Day, blurring the lines between artistic genres: music, theatre, dance, and visual arts blend in original and accessible creations. The festival pays particular attention to the young public and families, with shows adapted for all ages and play and workshop areas. Everything is completely free, affirming the popular and unifying purpose of this event.
Les Embarqués returns in June 2026 with its itinerant Escales in the towns of Seine-Eure and the grand weekend at Parc de Léry-Poses, mixing street arts, circus, theatre, music, and dance with free access.
The Festival des Embarqués is preparing its 2026 edition. The Escales will travel through the towns of the Seine-Eure agglomeration with free shows, before the grand weekend at Parc de Léry-Poses. The complete program will be unveiled in spring 2026 on the Agglomération Seine-Eure website.
