Celtic music and culture festival in Aureilhan
Every March, for Saint Patrick's Day, the town of Aureilhan, near Tarbes, comes alive with the sounds of bagpipes, violins, and Celtic guitars. The Festival Interceltique de Bigorre brings together nearly 500 spectators at the Centre Jean Jaurès for an evening dedicated to Irish, Scottish, and Breton culture.
The festival hosts renowned Celtic music groups from the region. Among the bands that have performed over the years: Daël, Talweg, Lune de Bière (violin and guitar ensemble), the Desmans Pipers (bagpipes), and the group Pikcelt. The program blends traditional Irish and Scottish music with modern arrangements.
The Amicale des Celtes de Bigorre, led by Élisabeth Duran, presents Irish and Celtic dance shows. Demonstrations include traditional dances such as the Laridé, the Cercle Circassien, and the Gavotte. Primary school students also participate in the show.
The festival offers on-site catering with charcuterie and cheese platters, crêpes, and cider, in a festive and warm atmosphere.
Centre Jean Jaurès, Aureilhan (65800), immediately next to Tarbes.
Entrance: €6 (free for under 13s).
