Poetry festival in Landivisiau, the city of Xavier Grall
The Festival Moi les Mots is a biennial poetry festival organized since 2011 in Landivisiau, in Finistère. For five days, at the beginning of winter, the birthplace of the poet Xavier Grall transforms into the capital of contemporary poetry. Labeled « Ville en Poésie » by Le Printemps des Poètes, Landivisiau hosts a rich program combining theatrical performances, musical readings, art exhibitions, writing workshops, encounters with poets, and artistic performances. Events unfold in multiple locations in the city: Le Vallon, the Xavier-Grall library, the Lucien-Prigent space, the town hall, the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes chapel, and Les Studios cinema. The festival is aimed at all audiences, from informed amateurs to neophytes, and defends a lively and accessible vision of poetry, far from clichés, by associating it with music, theater, visual arts, and wine.
Since 2011, the Festival Moi les Mots has made Landivisiau, the birthplace of the poet Xavier Grall (1930-1981), a major hub for contemporary poetry in Brittany. Every two years, at the start of winter, the Finistère town vibrates to the rhythm of words, voices, and images for five days of intense and generous poetic sharing.
The festival pays tribute to Xavier Grall, a Breton poet, journalist, and writer born in Landivisiau, whose lyrical and committed work continues to inspire generations of readers. Author of « La Fête de nuit », « Le Cheval couché », and « Solo », Grall sang Brittany, its landscapes, its struggles, and its language with burning passion. The town has dedicated its library to him, inaugurated during the 2025 edition of the festival, and proudly bears the « Ville en Poésie » label awarded by Le Printemps des Poètes.
Moi les Mots champions a lively and multidisciplinary vision of poetry. Each edition offers a rich and varied program that combines poetry with music, theater, visual arts, cinema, and even wine. Among the formats offered: poetic theater performances, musical readings, artistic performances, exhibitions of illustrations and drawings, creative writing workshops, encounters with poets, and screenings of poetic films. The festival hosts theater companies and artists from all over France, offering original creations designed for the event.
One of Moi les Mots' strengths is its spread across multiple venues in Landivisiau, transforming the city into a true poetic journey. Le Vallon, the town's performance hall, is the heart of the festival, but events also take place in the Xavier-Grall library, the Lucien-Prigent space, the town hall, the Georges-Tigréat space, the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes chapel, and Les Studios cinema. This dispersion creates an original urban dynamic and invites festival-goers to (re)discover the heritage and cultural sites of the commune.
Moi les Mots is aimed at all audiences, from informed amateurs to neophytes, from children aged 3 and up to adults. The program includes shows for young audiences, participatory workshops, and free events, with a constant focus on cultural accessibility. Prices remain moderate, with discounts for young people and free access events.
The 8th edition of the Festival Moi les Mots will take place from December 10 to 14, 2025, in Landivisiau. This edition marks the inauguration of the new Xavier-Grall library and offers a rich program combining poetic theater performances, musical readings, exhibitions, and workshops.
