Half a century of cultural diversity in Pays Bigouden
The Festival Mondial'Folk in Plozévet is one of the oldest and most beautiful folklore festivals in Brittany. Created in 1974 under the name "Fête des biniou" by 25 passionate volunteers, it has become over the decades an unmissable event on the international folk scene. From its beginnings, the festival was considered one of the finest in Brittany, attracting a loyal and enthusiastic audience.
From Fête des biniou to Mondial'Folk
In 1983, the organizing committee opened its doors to the first international groups, and the festival became the "Festival International de Folklore". In 1997, by opening up to world music, it adopted the name Mondial'Folk, reflecting its universal vocation. Today, the festival is a member of CIOFF (International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts), a guarantee of quality and international recognition.
Songs, dances, and music from around the world
Every August, folk groups from five continents gather in Plozévet to share their musical and choreographic traditions. The folk galas at the Centre Culturel Avel Dro, the parades of nations through the town's streets, and the open-air performances offer an exceptional panorama of global cultural diversity. Breton artists, pipers, and Celtic circles mingle with ensembles from Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Europe in a colorful and joyful celebration.
Over 200 volunteers dedicated to the festival
The festival is driven by the "Comité Plozévétien pour la Promotion des Échanges Culturels dans le Monde", an association of over 200 volunteers who prepare the event throughout the year. This exemplary community commitment allows nearly 20,000 visitors to be welcomed each year in a festive and friendly atmosphere. The craft market, street entertainment, and shared meals complement a rich and varied program.
An internationally recognized festival
Since its creation, Mondial'Folk has hosted over 10,000 international artists and has forged lasting ties with folk ensembles from around the world. The festival contributes to the cultural influence of Plozévet and the Pays Bigouden, while promoting intercultural exchange and dialogue between peoples. It has become an ambassador of Breton culture internationally.
