Semaine 34: A Festival in the Heart of the Mountains

The Festival Semaine 34 is a biennial cultural event that takes place in Col d'Ornon, a small mountain village located in Oisans, in the heart of the Isère department. Organized by the Association Socio Culturelle et Sportive d'Ornon, this festival gets its name from week 34 of the calendar, traditionally corresponding to the third week of August.

A Week of Artistic Immersion

For an entire week, the festival offers a complete artistic immersion in the village of Ornon. Days are dedicated to participatory workshops open to everyone: swing dance, handpan, tadelakt, painting, "from cinema to theater," and many other artistic disciplines. Evenings are dedicated to shows and performances, offering a varied program mixing theater, music, dance, and performances.

An Intergenerational Event

One of the strengths of Festival Semaine 34 is its ability to bring together all generations. From the youngest children to seniors, everyone finds their place in the workshops and shows offered. This intergenerational dimension makes the festival a true moment of sharing and social cohesion, where permanent residents, second-home owners, and passing visitors come together around artistic creation.

An Exceptional Alpine Setting

Ornon is a mountain village located at an average altitude of 1,828 meters, in the Lignarre valley, in the heart of Oisans. This preserved natural setting provides a spectacular backdrop for the festival, amidst alpine pastures, forests, and surrounding peaks. The village's relative isolation enhances the immersive nature of the event and contributes to creating a unique atmosphere, far from urban hustle and bustle.

A Biennial Festival

Festival Semaine 34 is held every two years, which gives each edition a special event character. In years without the festival, the association sometimes organizes "La P'tite Semaine," a smaller format of a few days that maintains contact with the public and prepares for the next edition. The festival has already celebrated more than ten editions, becoming a lasting fixture in the cultural landscape of Oisans.
